I know that Highlands has a bariatric program, so I imagine they have a support group also. You may want to give them a call- 886-8240.

Hope this helps,

THanks Maria, I am now very interested in the Duodenal Switch...Lots of options out there...I just know that I need to lose weight, and I want to do it safely and I want long term positive results as well as short term...

Hi All,
My name is Melissa and I've been off the wagon since the end of 2008. I need support sooo bad. I'm going to start getting on here every evening and making myself accountable and reading how you all are doing. It's nice to meet all of you and good luck!

I would not recommend Weiss and Oldham either. Yes they are excellent surgeons but there is no after care with them at all. I had my surgery on July 5 ,2006 and I never saw Oldham again after that. I do feel their business is a money racket and they don't really care about their patients. I had lapband and lost about 95 lbs. and have gained back about 20 lbs. I have thought about the vertical sleeve but I can't afford it right now. Good luck and maybe if we all started speaking up more they would be forced to provide the aftercare we require and deserve.

Thank you Elizabeth.
CA was great, and absolutely crazy.  I feel like though we were there for 16 days it was only 3.
Glad you popped in a bit for a read!

Busting in from CA, but that is so sweet!  And fitting into your son's sweat clothes is a great WOW MOMENT!

I heard Dr. Shina favors the bypass and really does not like the band. He only started doing lap-band a little over two years ago. From the nurses at the hospital he works at, he has calmed down a bit where he was down right nasty to the nurses and patients. If you are looking for some one for adjustments I recommend Dr. Allen and Dr. Geller. Both have their offices at Suburban hospital in Louisville. Dr. Allen was the first, basically in the country, to do Lap-bands.

I recommend Sonnanstine for sure. Stay as far away from Weiss and Oldham as you can. The more I hear about them the more their type of practice scares me. they live in Lexington but go to at least 5 different cities. Mayfield, E-town, Louisville, Lexington and Hazard. They will fly their airplane to western KY do a few surgeries and then fly home. Same as Hazard. Someone told me they are even starting to go to another state. Bottomline is they are not there to take care of you and they do not see you after surgery. They leave all of the followup in the care of nurses. They are all about numbers like a surgery mill and money. I think they have a $500 fee that goes in the doctors pockets that gets you nothing. Imagine what would happen if you got sick and lived in western KY -- do you have to drive to Lexington to see them? I know they wont come to see you.

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Dr. Sonnanstine.

Just my two cents,

Holly
