Hi all.

I know this is a few days after the fact, but I just read the posts.  I would not only change doctors, I would file a complaint with your state's medical board and any other supervising body.  Any doctor that dismisses your symptoms in such a manner is not doing his job.  (And he's not only dismissing you, he's dismissing other medical professionals.)  Your case, fortunately, had a positive outcome, but what happens when he dismisses another patient who may not persist in getting the care she needs?  He sounds like a medical malpractice suit looking for a place to happen.  Bariatric surgeries can have complications years out; I would hate to have a doctor that didn't pay attention to my pain.

Let us know what you decide and if you need any other help or encouragement.

Topic: Support Group Meeting at Surburban
 Hi all,

I've got a thing at school so can't go to support group tomorrow but wondered if anyone wanted to go to the "Dance for Your Heart" class Thurs. Feb. 4 from 6-8 at Surburban.  You are supposed to learn several different dances and I think it would be a hoot to shake our booties.  They are doing blood pressure and body fat analysis from 5-6.

And so your journey begins.  While you still have the naysayers and the doom and gloomers to deal with, on a positive note, you have many who are already walking this road and are ready to cheer you on!!! I have not arrived at goal yet, but after 1year and 9 months, I am much healthier and happier than I was, not to mention being down from a size 24 to a 16-18.  So, welcome aboard- great things await you!!!

Thanks so much ladies.  Your support was exactly what I needed!  I am feeling so much better today, and I am more determined now to practice new habits while I wait (patiently????) to for all of my appointments and news from insurance.

I am sorry you have had that reaction from a medical professional. That makes me sad. They of all people know what we as obese people deal with every single day.
You are correct do not let her get you down. Give it your best and prove them wrong!  Learn as much as you can as you go thru the process and do your best. It is a tool for our bodies it is our heads we have to do the work on.
I am doing really well with my surgery since 1 April I have lost 133.5 pounds. NEVER in my wildest dreams did I think I would get there, please keep your patience and do what you need to for you!
You can do it! It won't be easy and you may get frustrated with red tape, the scale or your pouch but with work you will succeed.

kudos to you for beginning the journey to regaining your health and life!!

Welcome!  I'm glad that your Humana policy covers WLS.  I have Humana, but WLS is not covered on our policy so I had to pay out-of-pocket 100% fo rmy surgery.

As far as your PCP goes, some are just not that great.  I was lucky that mine was very supportive of my decision.  If you like her otherwise, stick with her.  If not, doctors are a dime a dozen and you can find one that will be more supportive and encouraging to you instead of lecturing you about what her kids eat (which has nothing at all to do with you!).  Every time I see my PCP, she is so excited to see me and gives me a lot of praise.

The closest Peebles and Goodys for me will be Paintsville. Girls don't buy up all the bargains, Save me a couple. See you there this weekend hopefully.

Welcome to the board! I too have Humana Ins. I did the six month supervised diet, had everything submitted and was approved for surgery in two days! Hopefully that will help you through all of this process. It is a lot of red tape but I think it will be worth it in the end!!
