Countdown! (Long)
I'm doing all my pre-op testing now and starting to get a little nervous. I've got two weeks to go. Today I saw the cardiologist who gave the go ahead and I saw the pulmonary spec. who thinks I have sleep apnea. He wants a sleep study done before surgery. So, tomorrow I see the vascular surgeon (for the filter) and then Wednesday, I see the psychiatrist, the nutrionist and have the sleep study Wed. nite. The cardiologist was amazed that with my height and weight, I didn't have high BP, diabetes, high cholesterol or any other of the usual problems. As a matter of fact, he asked me if this was a "vanity" issue, I assured him it most certainly was not, why did he think there was a walker in the room with me. My knees are shot and I can barely get around. Of course, right now, all of my arthritis meds are a BIG no-no and the pain is much, much worse than usual. I went to my pre-surgery conference on Wed. nite and learned so much. The dietician is awesome. I really like her and will probably rely on her as much as anyone else to help me be successful. I've been reading everyone's posts and soaking up all the info I can, watching for tips and hints. You guys are awesome. I have to tell you something I learned on this board that has been a source of hiliarity around my house. Someone mentioned using a long handled wooden spoon for taking care of "personal hygiene". As that is already an issue for me, I decided to go ahead and try it. I didn't like the idea of a wooden spoon, so I have a plastic red spoon with the Kool-Aid pitcher smiley face on it. I confiscated that for my personal use. My hubby asked me the other day if the pitcher had lost the smile on his face yet. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. Hadn't thought of that! Hope that wasn't more info than you needed, but it really brought a huge laugh around here. Anyway, just wanted to check in and fill everyone in. Thanks ! Myra

I had my surgery on Jan 9th, before the surgery I was so happy and excited. I guess they don't get to many people smiling real big when they go into surgery.
I was a little nervous but the being excited was my main emotion.
I hope everything goes well with you and you will be on the losing side soon.

ps It sounds like you have a family who will support you, that is wonderful.
