Breads
Hey all. Question here. I'm tolerating breads a little more these days it seems. I really want a sandwich, I'm sure some out there can relate. Anyway, I have tried ww bread. Is there any others that seem better for us to digest. I wasn't sure about some of these low carb ones. Just looking for ideas. I'm so sick of soups and leftovers for lunch and I have to have something simple for work. Thanks.

Hey Angi
I don't do much bread, I did none at all for the first year and a half..now like you I crave something different. Since my doc told me not to eat and drink at the same time I don't do soups since I feel that's pretty much the same concept. I have lost all my weight so I do indulge and treat myself to bread once in awhile..
I bought a loaf of pepperridge farm, it's very thinly sliced..I go trail riding on my horse now so a sandwich really works better for our break beside the lake..I packed a tuna and hardboiled egg sandwich on one slice, a cheese stick and I have a large bottle of propel in my saddle bag so I can sip on it all day.
When at home I eat tons of veggies and lots and lots of protein..I am careful about my fruit intake, I chose berries for a slushy that gives me the sweets I need and I get some vitamins too..I also drink a protein drink every night before bed.
I hope this helps
Brenda
Thanks. I'm only two months out so I guess it will be a while for me. I'm just trying to come up with some ideas for my lunches, I start a very hectic couple of months pretty soon and I need something with no preparation, eat at my desk kinda thing. Tuna's one option, the only problem is it kinda stinks up the place if you know what I mean. Oh well, I'll figure it out. Thanks for the advice though.

I am very surprised that you are even allowed bread at this early stage. But, I have a couple of friends that have had Dr. Bolar when he first came to kentucky and I couldn't believe all the stuff they were told to eat. Seems that his diet, unless he has changed it, is completely opposite of the most of our docs. be very careful of the bread unless it is toast. it will ball up in your pouch and if your weight loss stalls, look at your bread intake first thing.
I agree with Delores about the bread, it's emply calories anyway.
what I did the first year was take meat roll ups, turkey, ham, chicken breast or roast beef from the deli..never "lunchmeat" I still don't do any type of processed foods. anyway I would take meat then roll them up with cheese..maybe sugar free jello or pudding cups for a light snack..and always a protein drink. I move around alot in my car. So I still take a cooler of drinks and a protein drink on ice, everywhere I go..
you can also take left over meats from home..chicken breast etc. think low carb..
Good luck
Brenda, you mention deli meat. Is it processed? I've never really bought it sliced that often, we always just bought the packages. Which deli meats are better for us anyway? Also if you don't mind me asking, what kinds of cheese can you eat. I've noticed that if they have much fat in them I dump. The sad part is I really love different cheeses but am afraid to experiment very much. Thanks again for all of the advice and info, sorry so many questions but I'm still trying to figure some of this out.

I always bought healthy choice or Sarah Lee..roasted chicken, turkey breast, roast beef and once in awhile I would buy baked ham slices. (by the way they will sell these by the slice you dont have to order a whole lb..or half lb) THough I am pretty careful about the sodium content. I don't purchase the processed things like bologna, pepperloaf, pickleloaf etc.
It would be better to fix it yourself but difficult to fix such a small amount of each one. when I did cook turkey breast or chicken breast I would package those in seperate containers, maybe put a bit of gravy over it though I never had a problem with any type of meat at all..as for cheese same thing, I can eat any type of cheese..but it's rare I will eat american cheese at all..I love swiss, provolone, cheddar, farmers..etc..etc.
Also another thing I still do often times in the AM..as a matter of fact I may do this tomorrow morning, I have to be at St. Luke at 7:30 so when I get up at 5am.. I will place a chicken breast in an aluminum foil pocket..sprinkle a bit of Italian dressing on it..fold it up then place it in the toaster oven for about 25 -30 mins..it's so good and tender..that will be my lunch later in the day.
and it's good to ask questions any time..that's how we learn..I fortunately had a great WLS buddy I met about 3 months out..she taught me alot of this stuff. she had lost over 200 lbs already so I figured she was doing something right, she and I both believe in being very compliant the first year..no pasta, bread or rice..keep your bad carbs very low..stick to meat, veggies and some lower carb berries and a little fruit once in awhile..I never ate bananas after I read the carb count..yikes. I eat them once in awhile now because I work out alot. In the AM was a hard time for me..so that's when I had my protein drink..I have found out if I drink something warm in the morning like Sugar free hot cocoa or tea, I can tolerate food a little later..seems it relaxes the pouch..or is it my imagination?? who cares it works..lol
email me anytime I work on the internet so I am around alot except Mondays and Wednesdays..

Thanks Brenda. I will try the meats and cheeses you mentioned. I'll do it here at home first. I just really don't want to dump at the office in front of hundreds of clients. How embarrasing that would be, let alone how painful!
The chicken idea with italian sounds really good, I too like different flavors. If you haven't already, try cooking your chicken in a drop of EVOlive Oil and lemon pepper. My family really likes chicken, pork and fish cooked this way.
Thanks.

The only thing he told me was to toast my bread the first couple of weeks after going on regualr foods. Other than that I am free to eat just about anything. I have eaten popcorn, nuts, most meats including steaks, etc... I know that pasta doesn't work for me so I've stayed away from it entirely. I've eaten some zestas from time to time but nothing that much. I've only eaten bread like maybe 5 times since surgery, its not something I've tried that often, again, I was just looking for something different for my work lunches, soup is not a good choice with all of the additives and stuff. I know from the posts that I've read my diet didn't have the restrictions that many did but I just figured each doc is different. I'm not allowed to drink any caffiene from surgery on, no carbonation ever again, but I can chew gum. Go figure.
Thanks for all of the info though, I appreciate your reply.
