what type of vitamins have you tried post op? Has anyone had hairloss?

I was wondering if anyone could recommend some vitamins for post op. I afraid of losing my hair. Has anyone dealt with the issue of hair loss? If so, how much did you lose, has it grown back, and how did you resolve this issue?

I was convinced that I wouldn't lose hair. I did everything right. A month before surgery I started taking hair/nail vitamins, large does of biotin and using the generic Nioxin shampoo. Unfortunately, my body had other ideas! LOL At 3 months I started losing hair at an alarming rate. I used to have very thick hair. By the time the loss stopped (on the TOP of my head) at about 7 months, I was SO THIN. Yes it was noticeable, I felt like a balding man doing comb-overs trying to do what I could to camoflauge the fact that I had little left! The good news was that by the 6 month mark I was starting to notice short hair regrowing at the temples. It has grown out about 1 - 1 1/2" now. Not quite enough to get me back to normal, but I'm on my way! Oddly enough, some of it is coming back really DARK! I've never had dark hair... ever! LOL Now... at about the 6 month mark I started losing it on the sides and back. While not as drastic as on top, I am still losing a fair amount at 11 months. But while losing hair is distressing, I'm trying not to get bent out of shape about it. I know it WILL grow back. And I knew about this side effect before going into this surgery and accepted it. If going for a year with crummy hair is the price I have to pay to be happy, healthy and ACTIVE again... so be it! I forget about my hair every time I slip easily into a size 6 or 8 pants and don't have to lay on a bed to get them zipped. As far as post op goes, make sure you get your GOOD multi-vitamin, biotin and Folic Acid. The shampoo (nutri-ox or nioxin) does seem to help, but it will not stop the problem. Good luck! Rhonna
