~*~The New Girl~*~
Hello everyone. I am 20 years old and my name is Dannielle. I am from Western Kentucky. I recently became very interested in WLS and went yesterday for my first, of many visits to the doctor.
I have a question also... for those of you who have went through WLS what was your BMI when you went in for your operation?
Thanks!
Dannielle
HI
Welcome to the forums. Yes -you had one of MANY appointments today. It is so worth it!!
My BMI was 41 the morning of surgery. I am 5'2" and I weighed in at 226 the morning of surgery 12-28-04. I weigh approx. 145 now. I'm so glad I had my surgery!! My health has improved so much as has my quailty of life.
So glad you have started down the path to a new and improved you!!

Welcome to the group Dannielle!
When I had my band surgery three months ago I weighed 500 pounds and my BMI was 69.something (it's in my profile). Today I am 428.5 and MUCH happier.
It took a lot of research for me to decide which surgery was right for me (and to get good info, there are a lot of myths out there about all the different types of WLS). It's a long, long road but it has been very much worth it for me!
Most important of all, be sure you find a Doc you like who has a lot of experience in the surgery you choose and who has a great follow-up program.
Peace,
Kristina

Welcome, Dannielle. Like someone above said, it's really important that you research and choose the best surgery for you! I'm a year out from having the duodenal switch. I think my BMI was 50.1 pre-op (I weighed 277 nekkid, 283 clothed the morning of surgery). Today I am at 162 or 165 clothed. Loving it!

Hi Dannielle, (love the spelling)
I'm not 20, but 43 and I'm researching WLS also. Just went to a seminar in Kettering, Ohio, today. They talked about RNY and DS (which I'm intested in). Was able to talk with patients who have gone through the surgeries, one DS and one RNY.
Do LOTS of research about the different types of surgeries before you make a decision. Look at the pros and cons of each type of surgery so that you can make an informed decision.
