Hello Everyone, It has been about 2 weeks since my surgery. I am feeling good mentally and physically and seem to be healing nicely. I just have a few questions??? I still am having trouble getting in my protein supplements. I guess it is more psychological. I just can't seem to get them down. They told me to get 60-80 gm/day. I am lucky to get 20 gms. I am eating real food, but they said the 60-80 was in addition to any food I might eat. I have tried several different types. I keep the hot cocoa down and a cold drink down, but I can never get it finished. I tried some hot soups and thought I was going to gag myself. No way it was even going down. I spoke with one of the Dr's at the Center and he said he wasn't worried about that, he just wanted me to make sure to get all my liquids and stay hydrated. As I said, I feel good, but I get so tired quickly. I never have had surgery, so I don't know if it just a normal recovery thing or if my lack of protein is hendering me. Anyone else ever had this problem? I have lost about 12 # since my surgery, but I am afraid that my lack of protein will hender my weight loss..... If anyone has had these problems or anyone has any ideas or just good thoughts, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks for all of your imput, Brooke

Brooke, it might take about six weeks for you to stop feeling so tired and get your energy back. This is normal. it is not a sign of low protein as early out as you are. That being said, you mention cold drinks and hot soups. Are you talking about that stuff they sell at the office? If you are, there are better tasting things on the market once you feel like getting out and finding them.

Hang in there!! I would say you are doing fine. It took me about 5 weeks before I felt like me again. Some people sooner others longer. I still have days I can't get all my protein in!! We have good days and bad days. I have been blessed that my good days FAR outweigh my bad days. Give yourself time and PLEASE do not be hard on yourself!! It takes time. I drank alot of carb solutions choc in the beginning. I mixed it with skim milk and to add flavor I would add peanut butter or fat free hot coco mix out in a blender and drink through out the day. I drink carb countdown choc milk more these days. VERY tasty, like a thinned down choc milk shake!! YUMMY.. I can only find it at Wal-mart around here. Hang in there and be patient with yourself!! Blessings Tonya

if you would like to taste some different protein drinks or get free samples, we will have those at the conference..so please stop by Kay's protein booth and see what she has to offer, maybe you can find something you like better there.. Brenda

FYI, in order for Brooke to get your message, you have to reply to her original post. I'm sure that is who you are responding to. Delores is two and a half years post op.

I'm two weeks out and am going thru much of the same. I do well to get 20g of protien in and my fluids aren't near what they are supposed to be. I just don't want anything. I've tried several of the protien drinks and the only thing that I have tolerated so far is Carnation Instant Breakfast but its getting old quick. I hope to be on solid foods next week so I will experiment with the protien bars. As for energy, yep its going quick as well. I start back to school next week and its scaring me. I just cant think straight anymore, I am forgetful and can't stay focused, hey I guess I'm just a dizzy blonde. 3 out of 4 of my classes are online though so that should help. By the way I called my Doc with some questions this past week asking him if it was normal, his response laughing is that now I will have all kinds of normal. Take Care and God Bless, Angi

Thanks Angi, This message board is priceless. It is nice to know that there are other people out there that are in the same situation as me. I guess most go through the same things, but when its you, you feel kind of scared and lonely. Thanks for responding. There for about a week I was joking that I went through all of this and even paid money to kill myself because I was sure that I was doing something wrong and would end up dying or something. I guess I just have to keep looking to the future. I hope to hear from you again, Brooke
