Hello everyone! I'm a little discouraged as of today. I'm on the 6 mos. supervised diet w/St. Joseph East in Lexington, KY. I'm doing alright on teh diet...lost 21 lbs so far, dietician and excercise person said to keep loosing until I had surgery that I would be approved. Today I had my pschological evaluation and it went awful. I was honest and sincere about my thoughts on everything. I was diagnosed w/Bipolar disorder in Feb, very mild mostly just controlling my moods, nothing else. However when I explained this to the Dr. he said that I would have to wait a full year from july/05 so that I could spend a year getting used to my med's and see how my body works with it so I don't harm myself. They problem is I've never had a suicidal thought or any thoughts of harming myself. I know fully aware of the risks of the surgery and the toll it may take. I also took some 650 questionnaire in june/05 and he said that I had failed the test and it would have to be re-done. He said that section of how you view yoruself, I got a 78, acceptabel scores are 65 and below. I was honest on all the questions as to what I thought. He said I would have to re-do the test and so on. I just don't know if I can wait a year or not for the surgery. I have 3 mos of the supervised diet out the way...it's hard to keep your spirits up when you face so much, ya know. Also he said that intelligent people sometimes fail that part of the test. I don't know If i fully trust him. Would the psychatrist that I work with on my bipolar give my medical clearence or does it have to be part of the St. Joe's EAST medical weight loss program? I'm just frustrated. Thanks for the advice. ross

Call them and ask them. Can't hurt.

I would call them. Many of us who have had WLS surgery have suffered from depression. I know bi-polar is different than just depression. PLEASE do not give up!! You need to stay focused and working toward your goal. Being honest is always the best way to go. Lies always come back and bite you in the butt!! So just keep on being honest!! You are honoring yourself and the Lord!! I wish you all the best in this journey. Blessings Tonya

I don't know what type of insurance you have but I had to do weigh****chers for 6 months and I was told not to loose over 12 pounds during that time or insurance wouldn't approve good luck
