Problems with Dr Geller's office-Anyone else??
I have had problems with getting info (paper work, etc.) from Dr. Geller's office. I'm wondering who else has had this problem. Brande, the office worker (I think the only office worker) keeps saying she will send me the info requested and then I never get it. Phone calls are rarely returned, same with emails. I like Dr Geller and think he's a good doctor, but I think the office is not ran very well for business. I can't even let him know of my problem of not getting info sent to my ins. co or sent to myself, for me to send to them because Brande screens ALL the calls. Even after hour calls go to her phone. I'm ready to change doctors because if I can't get things done and questions answered before surgery I cringe at the thought of what after care will be like. I'd like to let Dr Geller know he's starting to lose business because I would never advise anyone to go there. I'm wondering how many others have had this problem and can anyone tell me of a good doctor in or around Kentucky that has a good office staff and good aftercare.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in Advance,

One of the main reasons I left him. I started with dr. Geller when he was in with Shina. He was just starting out and I was to be one of his first patients. The office staff at Dr. Shina's was so slow and I actually made a complaint with the office manager who BTW was the rude persons sister. Also, since I had the old JIB and had it reversed and was seeking RNY, I don't really think he knew what to do with me. My best friend was going to Dr. Steiner in Lexington and I thought it would be neat for she and I to go thru it together. She really did like Dr. Steiner so I called his office. I found him to be one of the most compassionate, kind and caring doctor I have ever know. He is very highly skilled. He has saved my life two or three times since. You can look him up under the find a doc section and read all about his training. He is VERY highly skilled.
I could not be happier with my choice of the Center for Weight Loss Surgery in Lexington. The doctors there are Dr. Steiner (mine), Dr. Nighbert and Dr. Greenlee.
When I went for my introduction seminar, Dr. Steiner told me that he would make sure I was on the "fast track" because we had a cruise planned for January and he wanted me to be eatting pretty normally (types of food, not quantity!) by then. Fast track was right! Lordy, they moved everything through so quickly that one month later I'd had my surgery!
I have nothing but the highest praise for Dr. Steiner and his office staff. He is an exceptional surgeon and saved my life when there were complications from the surgery (mechanical failure, not surgeon error). The aftercare is exceptional and many of the staff are post-bariatric as well, which is very helpful. Also, the hospital where the surgeries are performed is connected to the building where Dr. Steiner is. I found the hospital experience overall to be very satisfying. I had great care there!

I've heard so many horror stories out of that office that it doesn't surprise me. My doctor refused to refer me to their group, so now I have an appointment on August 29th with Georgetown Bariatrics (Dr. Weiss and Dr. Oldham). Since I live just north of Louisville, they scheduled me to see the psychologist, nurse practitioner, and nutritionist all in the same day! Good Luck!

A late reply but noteworthy. I had problems with Dr. Shina/Geller's office in late 2003/early 2004. First, I wasn't impressed with initial consulation routine. It was like a big cattle call---lots of people waiting in line, being processed mechanically (they even called out my weight across the room!) and my "visit" with the dr. was all of 30 seconds. The office staff were rude, I could never get any answers, and then no one would help me with an appeal......other people said that if things went smooth with your insurance company, they were good, otherwise, same things happening. The final straw was that I got billed $350 for that 30 seconds, which of course wasn't covered by insurance as no treatment occurred. I never did get approved, and eventually chose another group. I have since been treated professionally, the doc takes a personal interest, and the office is ever so helpful with the insurance maze. I hear the guys in Lexington are great.
I am sorry for your problems with Dr. Gellers office... this was my PCP first choice...however I did some research and found Dr. Gaar and Dr. Allen....in the Norton Hospital in Louisville, and let me tell ya it's worth the 3- 31/2 drive that I make from southeastern Ky....I was "fasttracked" as well because I explained to Dr. Gaar that I wanted my surgery sometime in the summer because of school starting....which he did, my date was 7-22...and I am good to go for now....Go with your heart you'll end up in the right place....
