5 Month Anniversary

Five months ago I weighed 350 lbs, could hardly walk from my bedroom to my living room, was constantly "out of breath", could hardly tie my shoes, reach the floor, and on and on! Today I weigh 248 lbs (-102 lbs), walk 2.5 to 3.75 miles a day up and down steep hills, and feel the best I've felt in years. Of course I still need to lose another 63 lbs to reach my personal goal. However, if I don't lose another lb, I have been blessed! LIFE IS GOOD!!! My energy level and stamina continue to improve. I owe so much to so many. First to God who answered mine, my family's, my OH family's, and my friends' prayers; He saw me through the surgery, and has made the surgery a resounding success with no complications. Next to my wife who has supported me from the moment of thinking about WLS surgery to this moment; our son who took care of me and my wife who was seriously ill when I came home from surgery; our daughter who, with three children under four, couldn't travel to be with us, but prayed and provided continous support via phone; my sister-in-law (a nurse) who solved extreme pain problems with my "g" tube; all my siblings and "sibling in-laws" who were there for us; and to all at OH who prayed for me, gave me moral support, and answered various concerns through this journey. I am amazed and so thankful! Only five months ago I was in a ever tightening death spiral. Today I'm alive, feeling fantastic, and enjoying life, family, friends. WOW! Unbelievable. I FEEL GOOD! Thank you God, thank you all! Dick Coomes RNY 2/25/05 350/248/185

Dick...I'm so happy for you! I can picture you smiling as you wrote this post! I, too, am ever so grateful to have had this surgery and I thank God for everything! It truly is amazing all the benefits this surgery has. I like the way you summed it all up..."WOW! Unbelievable." That says it all!!!! Your friend, Sheila P.S. Do you ever read the February 2005 message board? It's good to talk to people that are at the same stages as us. Check it out sometime!

Hi Friend!!! Sheila, my happiness includes you too! I am confident we're both going to reach our goals and maintain them. It's nice to have a 2/25/05 buddy. Haven't heard of the 2/05 board. How do you access it? Later, your friend & buddy, Dick

Dick, once I log in and go to the Kentucky board, there is a link to my left for the Feb 2005 board...not sure if that is an option for all, so here is the link http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/surgdate-forums/02-2005/ Sheila
