I have waited 15 months to have the rny surgery, and now that Medicaid approved me, the doctor has denied me. I went to see Dr. Argotte this morning and weighed in at 216 lbs. Since seeing him last Feb. I have lost 50 lbs. This wasn't planned and I didn't really try to lose weight. I have been under so much stressed that weight just started to come off. The doctor called me at home this evening and told me that I had a big problem. He said that at my appt today he didn't realize that I had lost so much weight. He had scheduled me to have the filters put in my legs this coming Thursday. Don't know if that is still on or not. He didn't say. All he said that Medicaid wouldn't pay for the surgery if my BMI was not 35 or higher. He told me to start gaining weight back and fast. Does anyone out there had this problem or does anyone know how I can gain about 20 lbs within the next 3 weeks. I can't believe that I finally got approved and now something else has stopped this. I guess now it is more sodas, more salty things, etc. for me. Anyone have any ideas let me know asap. Thanks. Sandy

I respectfully disagree with trying to gain weight to obtain surgery. The whole purpose is to gain health by the surgery and losing weight should be congratulated and encouraged and celebrated. Gaining a significant amount of weight back in a short period of time goes against every principle of a comprehensive Weight loss program philosophy and that it is not just a surgery but a lifestyle change assisted by the surgery and your program. It is also extremely unhealthy to attempt to do so in such a short period of time. Why gain 20 so you can lose 70. With a 50 pound weight loss you have already gained so many benefits to your health you would not believe it. Your BMI if greater than 35 represent a higher risk for health problems (comorbidities) and if you have dropped below this number your risks have also dropped significantly. Increasing weight dramatically immediately prior to any major surgery should be discouraged. You are already a much healthier person. Good luck on continued weight loss, it is quite an accomplishment. Sincerely, Dr. Selwyn

Tonya, and Tanya, Thank you for replying, sorry that I haven't replied sooner than this. I had my filters put in my legs last Friday on the 22nd. My doctor forgot that he had weighed me with my Diabetic shoes on, and they weigh 10 lbs with the braces on them. I did gain 8 lbs which is all I needed to gain. But again, I have lost it again without trying. My surgery is scheduled for May 13.
