Insurance coverage

I have medical insurance through the hospital that I work at. I looked through the handbook last night and it said that weight loss surgery was not covered. Just wondering if anyone has had an experience where this type of insurance has decided in favor of the weight loss surgery anyway. I am interested in getting the lap-band procedure done. Any info will be appreciated.
