Post Op Open RNY???Things to know?
Hello, my open rny surgery is this Thursday and I am wondering what are some things I should expect. How bad is the pain when u first wake up in recovery? How many times a day should I walk around the halls? I am supposed to go in Thursday morning and come home Monday or Tuesday, if every thing goes well, how long will it be before I can go back to church? My church is important to me and I already miss it, lol I was just there today! Any post op pointers would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Love and God Bless
Angela
soon to be a loser!!!

Angela, good luck on your surgery Thursday! I had mine on Feb. 25th. The pain in recovery wasn't too bad, it's kinda gone from my mind already. I had the lidocaine ball in my incision, and of course the morphine pump. I remember just being in and out of sleep mostly. The evening of my surgery I got up and sat in the chair, and the next day I started my walks around the halls. They told me I needed to walk at least three times a day.
As far as church, I came home on a Monday, and went to church the following Sunday. A lot of people were surprised to see me there, but, church is important to me too, and I figured if I already went to Wal-Mart there was no excuse for me not to be in church, after all the Lord had done me a BIG favor in keeping safe through this whole procedure!
Hope this helps,
Sheila
Angela...you are getting close!!!!
The pain was not too bad...you have a good drugs!!!
I was told to stay out of crowds so, I was out of church for several weeks. So much illness was going around and I did not want to catch anything!! Your immune system is weak after surgery. Just becareful and ask dr. Shina what he thinks.
Ok now the basics. Chap stick and lotion. Your mouth and lips will be very dry. My skin was dry too. I think from the medicine.
You will have a hard time bending and twisting. And you will have to have a bowel movement BEFORE you leave the hospital. I tell you this because noone told me. Take a long handled wooden spoon or tongs. These can be wrapped with toilet paper to help you wipe. Sorry if sounds gross but hey it is what will help you. A lond handled backbrush. You will not be bending to wash your legs and feet the back brush allows you reach those areas.
Comfortable clothes!! Flannel pj pants or sweatpants, you will be swollen from surgery and will want comfort clothes. Much better than hospital gowns for walking the halls. No "mooning allowed"
It will be fine. I can not say enough about the nurses. They were so wonderful. They will make sure you get up and walk. I will be praying for you. With God in control you need not worry!!!
If you have any other question PLEASE let me know!!
Love & Blessings
