HERE AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY. SO WHO BETTER TO ASK THAN SOME OF YOU,THAT HE HAS SEEN. I WILL PROBABLY END UP GOING BACK TO THE CLEVELAND CLINIC,BUT I SURE DO NOT WANT TO IF I CAN HELP IT.THE DR. THEIR DIDN'T SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH DOING THE SUGURY AT ALL,I KNEW THAT THERE WAS COMPLATIONS BUT FIGURED D..STINNER WOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM HOWEVER HE DOES AND I TRY TO UNDERSTAND.THANKS FOR LISTENING AND ANY ADVICE,IF SOMEONE KNOWS OF OTHER DR'S. marie, if Dr. Steiner wouldn't do it, it is because he is afraid you will die. I was also high risk but he did mine. he has no problem with being high risk. You must really, really be high risk for him to turn you down. he made the decision in your best interest. Be very careful who you let operate on you. Dr. Bolar is a very fine surgeon and has been doing this for many years. he actually has more experience than anyone in the state. Also, Dr's Shina and Gellar at Norton's in Louisville might be an option. You just make sure whoever you chose is well aware of your problems and has LOTS of experience. Not just because someone tells you a doctor is good. Make sure they have experience dealing with your problems that make you high risk. I am very concerned because Dr. Steiner turned you down due to your problems. Delores Open RNY 228.6/118lbs.

THANK YOU DELORES, FOR YOUR ADVICE,I AM BEING VERY CAREFUL,I JUST WANTED TO SEE IF ANOTHER DR.AROUND HERE WOULD DO IT,THE DR.IN CLEVELAND OHIO,DEALS WITH THESE KIND OF RISKS BUT HE IS SO FAR AWAY.I JUST WANTED SOMEONE CLOSER TO HOME,I WILL TELL MY STORY LATER ON. I SAW DR. STINER BEFORE I WENT TO CLEVELAND HE SPOKE WITH ANOTHER ONE OF HIS COLEEGS BOTH DECIDED MY CASE WAS VERY INTERESTING BUT DECLIND TO OPERATE,HE SAID IF I EVER WANTED SOMETHING DONE TO SEE HIM FIRST. WHEN I WENT TO CLEVELAND THEY DID MANYTESTS,I TOOK THOSE TO DR.STINER THAT IS WHEN VICKY, CALLED AND SAID HE DID NOT WANT DO THIS.WHEN I WENT TO CLEVELAND I HAD NO IDEA THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THIS TYPE OF SUGURY,I WEIGH 201 AND I AM 5'3,SO TO SAY THE LEAST I WAS SHOCKED WHEN HE TOLD ME THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM WAS TO HAVE THE SUGURY.I REALLY LIKED DR.STINNER. HE IS SO NICE I WILL NOT LET ANYONE DO THIS IF THEY CAN'T ANSWER MY QUESTIONS..THANKS AGAIN

marie, it is really strange that someone named "Vickie" called you. I don't know of anyone by that name up there but it might be someone in the back office. Dr. Steiner usually calls people himself. he has called me several times to discuss my problems. he called me without me even having to call him. Why don't you call up there and ask to speak to him. If he isn't available right then, he will get back to you when they pull your chart. I hope you do tell your story someday. 5'3" and 201 does not seem too bad to me. I am 5'1" and started at 228.6. I know i couldn't even tie my shoes. All my weight was in the middle. But that isn't the reason of course that I was high risk. It was because of a very major surgery i had to have the year before when I nearly died and before I gained all that weight back. Well, good luck whatever you do and know that we are all here for you. Delores, Open RNY 2/10/03 228.6/118lbs

I would try UC Center for Surgical Weight loss in Cincinnati Oh. They take on some of the toughest cases and one of their Doc...Dr Selwyn posts on the Ohio board. They are very proficient in what they do, the docs all have years of experiance under their belts. They did mine and I had a BMI of near 60. and multiple other health issues. They are like I said located in Cincy Ohio and their scheduling number is 513-475-7770. Or just post a note for Dr. Selwyn on the Ohio board. Dr. Curry is another Cincy Doc who posts on the Ohio board, he may be able to help as well Sherri Independence Ky

It's possible Dr. Weiss and Dr. Oldham in Georgetown would consider you too high risk as well for the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, but the Adjustable Gastric Band (Lap-Band) could be a much more viable option for you. Give them a call and see. Put the three w's in front of bluegrassbariatrics then add the .com to get to their website. These docs are wonderful. You'd be in good hands with them.

I will answer your question, regardless of the other issues. I had dr. bolar. I loved him. His bedside manner is wonderful. I've heard that his staff now helps with appeals, which they did not when I went through my denial process. He is wonderful, and I couldnt' thank him enough for all he did. My only complaint is the after care is terrible. I never saw the nutritionist in the hospital (like you are suppose to) and when I asked at my post op appointment, they kinda blew me off and said "well, you won't need it until you can eat more at like 3 months post op or so". that was it. I still have never spoke with a nutritionist, and probally never will. I know I dont' make all the right food choices, but make sure I'm very cautious on portion control, etc. I'm now 13 months post op and have lost 95lbs, taking me to 172. I wouldn't change a thing about my journey, including the surgeon who performed it. I don't know what your other conditions are that are prohibiting the surgeon from accepting you as a patient, but any surgeon who truly cares about his patients will not operate if the risks outweigh the benefits. They may want you to get whatever it is better under control before pursing the wls. sorry to ramble on. Feel free to email me if you want any specific questions about Dr. Bolar answered, i'd be more than happy to
