Hello, I am very new to this site but not to the idea of weight loss surgery. I have several friends and family that have had WLS and have been very happy with it. I've seen the results they have had and want that for me. I've had a long hard road trying to lose weight in my life and have never been successful at it. I've no will power to NOT eat. Though now with the building medical problems I know I have to do something. My lifestyle is messed up. I try really hard to be really careful in what I eat but I still can't seem to lose the weight. I've tried every fad diet under the sun hoping to find the help I need, but I"d get so bored with the diet I'd go off it. Even Weigh****chers did not work for me. Another issue is that I have several things wrong with me. I've got hypertension, Celiac's Sprue disease, Osteoarthiritis, bursitis, and severe back pain/spasms. I'm currently being prescribed 4 different meds for all those things. and suppose to be on a special diet for the celiac's..it isn't helping me to lose weight like my doctor said it would. I can't afford scripted meds for weightloss as my insurance provider won't cover weight loss meds. I've tried alot of the OTC stuff, and those didn't work either. My thyroid is fine..I just can't lose weight. My body has apparently gotten use to my weight. I don't like that at all. I'm not looking to get bone thin here. I had a doctor tell me once that if I got below 175 or so I'd look unhealthy because I have a large bone structure. THis really doesn't make me happy..but I do understand what he means. I would just love to look a bit better and be healthy for my family. Right now I barely can function because of the back pain from the Osteo...bleh.. Ok..if you read this far...cudos to you..I almost said cookies..but I thought better of it.. Thanks for giving me time to babble on like that..I appreciate it.

... Mary... big ((((hug)))) to you. I've been in your shoes as I'm sure most all of us here at OH have. I know it's not fun... actually even depressing. I hope that you find your answers... I read (and it was alot to read ) but I didn't see if you are still just thinking about having the surgery or are you in the process of getting it? Also... my mom knows a Mary Fields... do you by chance know a Betty Hollon? Rhonda

Welcome to the KY board...Your struggles with weight, unfortunatley, ring familiar to me. Good luck in deciding about WLS-- I've decided to have it and my surgery is Feb. 25. If there's anything I can help you with, just let me know. Sheila

Well Rhonda, My thinking has become more of a possibility..Now that my spouse has decided it was ok to go ahead and look into it, I've started researching. I am NOT the Mary Fields she knows. There is one other in Mt. Sterling, KY and she is a much older lady. Prolly old enough to be my grandmother.. I did receive a package in the mail from the Georgetown Bariatrics Center. I will be sharing this with my PCP when I see her next week and hopefully go from there. I could share tons more about me but it's rather boring if you ask me.. Thanks for your alls support in this..it means alot. *hugs*
