Water....
Just wonderin' from those who have had surgery...How much water can you drink at a time? I get VERY thirsty and water is the only thing I like to drink. I have drank like 20oz straight before when I'm real thirsty. It's the only way to quench my thirst, and I was just wonderin' after I have surgery how much can I drink when I get real thirsty like that?
Thanks,
Sheila

For me it has been just sips. I was told in the 2 hour nutrution class that many WLS patient can never agian just gulp down liquids. Of course you can sip, sip, sip and that is what they want you to do. Dr. Shina wants you to have 64 oz. of liquids a day. That was not a problem before surgery for me. Now I have trouble getting all my liquids in!! But I'm only 5 weeks post-op and that will improve. My pouch will begin to relax and we ( my pouch & I ) will be able to drink more ounces in a day. It takes time after surgery. My taste buds and sense of smell have been really different since surgery. Where are you having your surgery??
Best of Luck

Thank you Tonya for your reply. I guess that's the word I was looking for *gulp*. That's what I do...lol. As long as I can still get plenty of water, I can learn to *sip* (hopefully).
I'll be having my surgery at Norton's Hospital in Louisville. I can't wait...I get more excited everyday. It seems these last few weeks are passing more slowly than the 9 months I waited for an appointment, insurance approval, etc. I just have to keep praying for patience!
I really appreciate your help, and all the help you give on this board is great! Keep up the good work!

The nurses at Norton's were so WONDERFUL!!! I can not say enough
good things about the nurses I had! You will be taken care of, no worries!!
Anything I can answer for you, let me know. I will do the best I can.
Things for the hospital:
CHAPSTICK!! a must
your lips and mouth are very dry after church
Ok this may seem a little odd- Long handled wooden spoon or tongs.
You will have to have a bowel movement before you leave the hospital.
And you will be to sore to bend & twist like you usually do. You can wrap toilet paper around the end of spoon or tongs. I know that seems weird buy it is very helpful info. Now if you have a spouse willing to help you that is good. I asked a nurse. it is their job. But I wish I had know about taken something esle.

Thanks Tonya for the great review of Norton Hospital. It is such a relief to know that I will be taken good care of. I have been in the hospital (never there) many times and I found the key to being treated well, is to treat them well. I have worked in the health field and trust me, it can get exasperating! I have found it works well to be courteous, patient, appreciative, and most of all, if possible, have someone with you to do the little things to make you comfortable so you'e not so dependent on the nurses.
Thanks for the Chapstick hint, and also the spoon...lol, I hadn't thought of that! I've had abdominal surgery before, and it hurts to breathe...let alone do the "twist" that it takes to get done what you mentioned...lol.
You've been a big help!
