I hope to have my surgery soon now that I am approved and I know Dr Shina only uses Nortons Suburban. I am looking forward to my experience there and was wondering, do we get private rooms? I would prefer private, but do we get a choice in the matter? Or at least share a room with another WLS patient. Thanks and God Bless Angela

Angela I LOVED the nurses @ Suburban!!! You may be able to have a private room. My insurance only covers semi-private. I believe you can pay the difference if you want a private room. My room mates were not wls patients. But I had wonderful roommates while I was there. You will be in good hands!!! Blessings Tonya

I'm so glad your going to Nortons. Its the best hospital ever. The nurses are top notch. I had medicaid Angel and I had my choice of Private or semi-private. So I don't know. But good luck and God bless you. I'll be down there the last part of the month to see my Dr. When is your surgery? I'll bet you excited, I know I was and very glad to get it over with. I weighed yesterday on my home scales and if their right i've lost 34 pounds since Dec. 17th my surgery date.

Dr. Shina was my doctor too. I did have a private room. That is just how it happened. So maybe u will be as lucky. It was very nice because those first couple of days you can not be modest!!! LOL The nurses aid there were fantastic.. they helped me so much. Good luck. Carol

I went to Nortons Suburban and my experience there was wonderful. There were a couple of nurses that I didn't care for, but the majority of them were top notch and they more than made up for the more serious ones that I didn't care for. During my initial stay, I requested a private room. My insurance paid for semi-private and I had to pay the difference. I think I paid around $300 and I'd say it was worth the month. I had to be readmitted twice after the iniitial stay and I just had the semi-private. Some of my roommates were good and I could have done without others. That is nature. I agree, the privacy matter may find you more comfortable with a private room.

I had my surgery at Norton with Dr. Shina. I was only approved for a semi-private room. The nurses and the care I received were top notch. I had three roomates during my 8 day stay there and could have done without two of them! LOL!! One was an elderly lady that was always cold (I was burning up!) and the other just talked about food and complained to anyone who would listen. None of my roomates were WLS patients. I will tell you that I think Dr. Shina is great!
