Why can't I sleep?
Hi everybody. Here it is....3 a.m....and once again...i cannot sleep. I normally go to bed about 9 p.m, and wake up about 1-1:30a.m. Then I might finally get back to bed around 4, just to wake up a couple hours later. This started when I quit taking my pain meds. I had my surgery the 21st, and quit taking them on the 25th. Has this happened to anyone else? Please offer some advice. I go for my week check up on the 23rd, but I would love to get some sleep before that......

The same thing happened to me. Right after surgery you are so sore and uncomfortable that it is pretty much impossible to get much sleep. I remember many many late nights of Nick at Night. I basically took "cat naps" all day for the first two weeks. I needed pain meds just to sleep. But rest assured it does improve in time. Good luck!
Anna, You might try taking several short walks during the day to try and get a little activity. But, I think the inability to sleep is cmmon until all the pain meds are totally out of your system. I just had some plastic surgery and i have the same problem. If you are allowed to shower or to get in the tub now, you might try a warm
I have also found a piece of cheese sometime helps me. If I eat it just before bedtime. Kraft makes a wonderful cracker size slice which is just right for new gastric by-pass patients. I hope it helps. How are you other wise?
Dr. Neighbert and the crew are who did my surgery too. Diane
