I think the enema would be better!!! How sad it that!! Each Dr maybe different. With Dr. Shina you drink 1 bottle of magnesium citrate (?spelling). It is a thin liquid, not the thick chalky yucky stuff. BUT... it does not have a good going down flavor!!! I have heard that if you put it in the frig the night before and drink it over ice it helps...some!!! But it will be gross....on the other hand you will have sqeaky clean plumbing!! I have to start drinking it at 6 the night before surgery. The bottle says it works quickly. I plan on staying close to the *throne room*!!! I asked my PCP why you can not just have an emena??? SHe told me an emena does not clean out the pipes as well!!! But hey I figure it is worth it, it is just another step to *loserville* Hope this has not scared you but it is honest. I didn't know if anyone else would reply. I guess *bowel prep* is just not a hot topic!! LOL Have a blessed day!!! Tonya

I drank a whole bottle of magnesium citrate the day before surgery too. It worked to cleanse the system.

My surgeon didn't require a bowel prep either. Just MOM 2 days before surgery, then liquids until surgery. I've had more than my fair share of those before, 2 years ago I had 2 colonoscopies and one barium enema, both required nasty bowel preps before. Trust me, the magnesium citrate is a BREEZE compared to the gallon of NULYTELY. UGH.

An enema is a preparation that goes up your backside to clean out the distal colon or rectum. Usual bowel preps are those mentioned which are swallowed. Recommendation: don't swallow the enema. Sincerely Calvin Selwyn, M.D. Assistant Professor of Surgery UC Center for Surgical Weight Loss
