Shrinking Liver Diet and Paperwork

I just received my surgery packet from Dr. Shina's office this week. WOW!!! What a lot to do. What scares me most is the Liver Shrinking Diet which I have to be on for 2 weeks prior to surgery. It is to reduce the liver so the Laparoscopic procedure will be more successful. The diet is a clear liquid diet with protein shakes (preferably clear liquid, to take in about 100 grams of protein per day.) I accepted in my mind that I would change my eating after surgery, but for two weeks prior is going to be so hard. But I am going to keep a real positive attitude and will get through it. After all, it is really worth it. My husband is wonderful and supportive. He sat down with me this morning and charted out everything I need to do on a calender from now until surgery (Jan. 20th). Then he helped me fill out all the medical forms. It's too bad that all the specialists couldn't use the same form so we could just copy it. It took us over 2 hours to get through all of it. I have also ordered some sample protein shakes from the internet. I sure hope I can find some I can like. If anyone has some recommendations for protein shakes, I would sure appreciate it. Hey Karen...I know what you mean!! 2 WHOLE WEEKS of clear liquids??Guess we start our new eating habits a little earlier than we thought heh? YES!! We'll get thru it...probably not easily, but muddle through we will!! I have been drinking the ANY WHEY brand protein in my coffee for a while now...it's pretty tasteless--the tasteless kind-(lol) also comes in choco and strawberry. I think Brandi mentioned she uses IsoPure. Chris said lots of folks like the Unjury, course you know everybody says our tastes will change and we may not like what we did pre-surgery...so who knows!!??!! God bless, Cass

Hi Karen I know you can do this. You have set your mind to have this surgery and you can do this too!! I was overwhelmed when i got that packet too! But it made it seem very real. I do not remember how long it took to complete but I know it took awhile. Your in good hands....God is holding your hand!! Love & Blessings Tonya
