HELP!!! Ins wants me to see Endocrinologist...
Help, I need advice, ASAP! My insurance co called my surgeons office, Dr Shinas, this morning and told that Bariatric Coordinator that they want me to be evaluated by an endocrinologist and they want more info about the after care program at Dr Shinas..I don't have diabetes, but my PCP put me on Glucophage 500mg 2x daily back in August for high blood sugar levels, to help control it...I would like to know what to expect from going to an endo Dr and how this could affect my case for approval for WLS...In some ways, I feel like it will help to have the support of the endo Dr, but I am scared in other ways that it might hurt my case...Anyone else had to go get evaluated by an endo Doc? Plz let me know. My email is [email protected]
Thanks and God Bless
Angela

Well, Linda, at the risk of making myself sound stupid I will say that my PCP has told me that I am not diabetic, but he is afraid with out the meds and dieting that I will be. I don't understand it myself because my husband has Type 2 diabetes and he was on Glucophage 500mg for years, he has since moved the mg's up to 1000. Sorry if my post sounded like I am an idiot, I am just going by what I have been told by my PCP...
Thanks and have a great day.

Linda, I would like to apologize, I was just going by what my Primary Care Physican told me, he had told me I wasn't diabetic yet, which makes me feel really stupid. I found out this morning from the endocrinologist that I am diabetic, I don't know why my PCP told me I wasn't when I am, but he did and I am sorry if my reply to your post sounded like I was being a smarty pants, I was just going on what my PCP had told me...
Thanks
Angela

No need to apologize. I did not mean to imply that I thought you were stupid. I don't think that. I am thinking tho, that if your PCP, who put you on glucophage to control ur sugar, told you that you are not diabetic, then he's the idiot! Diabetes is a tough disease. I was diagnosed with it in 2000, and am insulin dependent. I tried Glucovance and avandia, but they didn't work for me. I have a hard time controlling my sugar levels (my last A1c result was 10+ and it should be under 6). I take 4 shots a day and I hate it. I hope and pray I get approved for this surgery because I just know that afterwards, I won't need the insulin anymore.
Don't fret about having diabetes. If you follow your drs instructions, you shouldn't have any problems.
Good luck with it and with your journey
Linda
Thanks, Linda, I am starting to think the same thing about my PCP...I don't see how I can trust what he says now. I feel kind of betrayed. When he did my sugar levels, he had his nurse to call and tell me that he was putting me on Glucophage 500mg 2x a day. I asked her then if I was Diabetic, my hubby is and is one Glucophage also. She said no, my levels weren't that outrageous, just high. Now this morning I find out that low and behold I am a diabetic...I am just scared that the blood work this endo dr has me going for in the am or the 24 hours urine test will somehow hold me up from being approved... I hope u get approved soon...Good luck.
