Scared of ST. Joseph in Lexington
This is my first time to this site and I thought I'd share some information with you guys and get some feedback. Last year in November I went to the seminar with Doctors Steiner and Neighbert. I went to my consultation and paid the $200, met with the dietician and PT and had my physical. I scheduled a sleep disorders test and also a scope/colonoscopy. Two days before the colonoscopy, I was telling my mother about it since I had never had one before. The office had not given me any pre-instructions nor the "stuff" to drink the day before. I called the office and they told me what to go buy at Walmart and gave me the "what-not-to-eat" instructions over the phone. I was a little weary after this. Even with their instructions by phone, they still didn't tell me NOT to eat red Jello or popcicles which I later found out you can't do. This scared me so I cancelled everything. I know people had great results there, but after that incident, I just couldn't be sure.
I am from Paintsville and heard of several people having their's done at Kings Daughters in Ashland. A close friend of mine is waiting on insurance approval and she has told me all about each of her appointments. I went to their seminar last night and have scheduled a consultation with Dr. Thompkins for November. I'll see if I feel more comfortable there.
So....does anyone have any similar concerns? Let me know what you think. ( I have to drive 2 hours to Ashland and 40 minutes to Lexington!)
I don't know anyone personally who had theirs done at Georgetown.
Thanks ;)
Sorry about what You think might be wrong with the The Center for weight loss. I had my RNY done there on the 5th and everything and everyone was great. They have researched this stuff above and beyond In my honest opinion. They are an awesome group and You realize that You can't compare them with others because they all do things differant. Some give bowel preps before surgery Center for weight loss says just a dose of Milk Of Magnesia. I had no complications and would recommend them to ANYONE. The Folks at St. Josephs are also the most professional I have seen anywhere they called me the day after or two days after every wppointment I had with them just to see how I was doing They where all nice kind and curtious for each appointment and prompt. They took excellant care of me every time I had an appointment there and the stay in the hospital was no differant I stopped breathing atleast three times that i can remember after surgery and there was a nurse sitting right there with me that woke me up each time. I never had to ask more than once if I needed something they where always there to help. If I EVER had to go to a Hospital again for anything ST. Josephs East would be where I would want to go!!!! I really hope You would give them a second chance there and awesome group. I have called with questions several times and And they always took my call instead of some places that I know that put ya on hold or take three days to call back. I wish You the best.

Georgetown is suppose to be really great as well. Some towns around it send their patients there. I know a few who have had theirs done at Georgetown and just loved it. I personally had my done in Louisville by Dr. Rodriquez and he was awesome right along with Norton's Hospital. I hope everything goes well for you. Toni
i think someone just dropped the ball on your colonoscopy. i had great results with center for weight Loss and of course, i think my doctor , Dr, steiner is the best!!!!!!!!!!. beinbg a nurse, i did get impatient with the nursing staff. i am used to being on the ball for my patients and i felt like they were especially slow to respond. they let my IV dry up three times because the nurse didn't come when I asked her to. i made a huge complaint about the nursing staff and those things have been resolved. I recently had to be readmitted to St. Joe east for bleeding ulcers. My doc was out of town and I had to use Dr. Nighbert. i couldn't have been taken better care of by anyone. AND, the nursing care at the hospital was wonderful this time.
Now, that being said, since I am a nurse, I have also worked at the Georgetown Hospital. In fact, I worked a twelve hour shift last night. I didn't have any bariatric patients but did manage to visit with a couple of them. The night shift ratio is about 6-7 to one. it was okay last night but I am told day shift nursing care is the pits at times. Not much regular staff there anymore. Lots of nurse are agency (as I am) or prn. I worked a day shift about two months ago and felt like the bariatric program was an assembly line. (NO offense to you that favor it so much) it was getting in, gettin um out. i had three or four lap band patients that day and they are apparently doing that on ojutpatient basis. It was get them to their room, do vital signs for about four hours, get them up almost immediately (which is good) unless one falls on little bitty me because they are so weak, I struggled to hold them up. Get them a protein drink, show them a movie and send them home. Sorry, just not my cup of tea. I guess that's the way it is done now. i did have occasion to talk with both the bariatric surgeons over there that day and found them to be super nice and GOOD LOOKINg. especially, the tall blonde. HE HE, There are many great docs and programs in the state, you just have to research and do what you think is best for you. Good luck
I started this journery in Oct 2003, I started with St. Joes East... and was very disapointed by their staff after my first denial. I had and still do not have any complaints with the surgeons I think they are very compentant surgeons. So I changed to the group at Georgetown and have been deinied again and am Not disapointed at all with the Georgetown group. You have to do what's best for you .. I think we all have to do what's best for us.. We cant go on experiences that others have. Just do your research and follow your heart. I am waiting to hear from my insurance company again. Please keep me and my family in your prayers.
Just a word of warning!!!!!!!!!!! My post in response to a question about the different hospitals just got me fired from my nursing job. Seems the house supervisor at georgetown didn't appreciate my comments. I was being very honest. So beware, we already know our surgeons read the board, but to lose my job because of a posting is an invasion of privacy and VERY unfair.
oops, I jusr re-read my previous post and realized I had made a horrible mistake. I DID NOT GET FIRED FROM MY NURSING AGENCY. I was just fired or banned from going to georgetown to work. My agency was super nice in explaining it to me and reassured me that I was not fired from them. But i just wanted to say, my agency did not fire me and that is the way my original post read.
