what do you think about t...
Hi,
Is this really true???? I am having the epidural. Are you saying that I will be awake during the whole surgery? I wasn't told that by anyone. My surgeon did not tell me that I will be awake. I was under the impression that I would be asleep, and that the epidural would be in place for pain control once I was awake. WOW! That freaks me out. I know you are awake with an epidural when you have a c-section, but I just can't believe I will be awake for open RNY. Anyone else have any input on this?
PLEASE! Say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!

Hi I am new on here and just saw the epidural thing, I can only tell you that i had 2 ceasearan sections and I was awake the whole time and was cut open and from hip bone to hip bone and I can tell you if this is the way they do the open surgery--you will not feel a thing also you will not be able to move your body probably from your chest down. I can't imagine surgery done that way. But if it is, Don't worry about it..... Who told you this, the doctor? I hope I have helped some, I alwasy seem to be the one getting help on here. Good Luck!!!!!!
I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that you will NOT be awake during your surgery with an epidural. The epidural is only used (and not always) for pain management after the surgery. Imagine being awake during the surgery...you'd be moving around, and what-not, or at least I would be...but then again, I'm quite IMPATIENT!!
Anyway, just my opinion, but I'm pretty certain they won't allow you to be awake during it. I think there's a huge difference between a c-section and this surgery.

I have had three c-sections, all epidurals. I have to admit, I didn't know they could do this with wls. I think since I have experience with them, I would prefer to have it instead of anesthesia. You are awake, can't feel pain from your chest down, but could move your arms. I assume it would be about the same as the c-section in that your arms are stretched out on boards to the sides and yes they are tied down. Afterwards, you go to recovery until you're able to move your toes. I had an IV after surgery for pain. Hope this helps! Heather
