Dont know what to do!!!!

hi my name is jodi and i am a 21 yo femaile that really wants to get WLS. I contact my insurance today and they told me that it isnt covered in my contract. I have humana PPO. Does anyone know any way around that or any Dr.s that take payment plans? I don't know where to go from here. I'm 5'6 and weight 330lbs and I have heart disease and I really need to do something soon. Thanks for any help.

I have Humana PPO and they covered my surgery. In fact I got approved in 3 weeks. Check again - it may be that whoever you work for excluded it from the contract. I'm so sorry to hear that they said you aren't covered. Good luck

call them again Jodi! I called several different times and got several different answers. I too have a PPO and I would make sure they send you a copy of the exclusion that states that they do not cover it. Stick up for yourself until you have it in writing! Debbie

Hi Jodi I also have humana PPO, and the surgery IS excluded for me, too. I called them 3 times, and got the same answer....NOT COVERED, whether medically necessary or not. The last lady I spoke with told me that although it IS NOT covered to have my PCP write me a letter of medical necessity and send it to them. I seriously doubt that I'll be approved, but I did send them the LMN and a very long personal letter from me. It's been just over a week, and so far, I haven't heard anything from them. If you have registered with Humana online, you can check your policy there. Our policy states "No surgery, unless medically necessary" then further down the page, it states "No treatment of obesity, including but not limited to, surgery". The one possible good thing about this is it DOES NOT say MORBID OBESITY (which refers to me!), so IF they deny me, I'm going to contact one of the obesity lawyers and appeal it.
