Dr. Jeffrey Allen
I too wanted Dr. Allen. I have Humana PPO who will discontinue coverage of any WLS after January 1, 2005. I emailed him and a nurse emailed me back and said there was nothing they could do that there were many in front of me (and at first was a little not so nice)! I could not make an appointment (and this was after my pysch and nutrition assessment****il Decembe 10th...too long for me to be able to wait. I went to Caritas also in Louisville...have already seen the surgeon (Dr. Lusco) whom I enjoyed throughly and I am waiting on insurance approval now. I wish you luck in making your decision but I believe everything works out for a reason and I am happy I made the change! Everyone is so helpful!

Don't forget aboiut Dr. Geller. He is in the same office with Dr. Shina, who has been doing weight loss surgery the longest of anyone in KY. and they have no upfront program fees. I don't know where you got that they have a $200 fee. The only charges are the nutritionist and every program has that. I was at the support group and seminar and they were great.
Dr. Geller is doing the lap-band since the earlier this year at Suburban Hospital in Louisville. In Louisville, you can also see Dr. Allen, but his waiting list will take years to get thru, way past the Humana deadline. Dr. Allen does have some partners that do lap-bands, but not very many. And at Caritas is Dr. Lusco that you mentioned who also just started this year. Why leave Louisville for this surgery?
Good luck to us all!!

I initially tried to get surgery with dr. allen or dr. shina I work at Jewish hospial and it would have been convenient. Their office told me it was a 200.00 fee to fill out the paper work. Humana is writing the new policy to exclude wls on Jan. 1 2005. Most of all the Doctors I spoke to at Jewish said to go to Georgtown Hospital Dr. Derick Weiss. I did and had surgery on Sept 15th 2005. I believe my paper work was submitted on July 30th. I would call them and see if you could get things moving you still have almost three months left in the year. There staff has been great. It is only about an hour from Louisville. It is a small hospital but this is what they do every day and not only were the staff very knowledgeable most of them have had the surgery and could really understand how you feel. I was treated with alot more respect and care then when I had surgery any where else.

Dr. Lusco and Dr. Olsofka are very nice guys that really impressed me. Dr. Lusco completed the first band placement in Louisville alongside of Dr. Allen. Dr. Olsofka also graduated with Dr. Allen and he has a major about of experience with advanced laproscopic surgeries. He and Dr. Lusco do every surgery together!
I have never met Dr Allen, my friend had her surgery this past Monday with him and she likes him real well. I met Dr Shina yesterday for my consult and seminar. He is fabulous! My husband and I loved him. He is very nice. Has a wonderful attitude. He takes his time during the seminar to explain the surgery in great detail, the risks, and does several preventive things to cut down risk. I would recommend him to anyone. I had read on here that he wasn't very nice, humorous, but the man I met was...His staff is so wonderful also. If u have any questions, just email [email protected]
Good luck..
