REJECTION

I got my letter of rejection from Bluegrass Family Health on Saturday, 9/25. I was expecting it but it still made me depressed. Insufficient documentation of 6 months medically supervised diet. Other things too. Not sure what will happen because my health insurance will change on Jan 1 and if things don't improve, it will be for the worse. I am devastated.

Roberta, A good friend of mine is going through the same thing with BGFH. We have deduced that they are stalling hoping that they won't have to pay for the surgery. I would talk to your doctors office and see what they recommend. You can appeal and request an external review. I don't know the order of what's suppose to happen, but your docs office can help. Good luck. I hope things work out. BUT DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your support. I am not giving up. My diet documentation was not what they wanted and I don't know how else to prove it except do a 6 month medically supervised diet. Today I went to my regular dr and got the guidelines for a diabetic diet and will try to follow it for the next 6 months. I am delayed but not stopped. I'm not sure what kind of insurance I will have in 6 months but I will have this surgery! I will not give up.

Roberta: I am so very sorry to hear that Bluegrass didn't approve your surgery. I know you must be so very upset, but please don't give up. In Jan you can start again with the process and bug the hell out of the new insurance company. Maybe our insurance won't be so bad since the legislators are in session to try to make improvements. You're in my thoughts and don't give up! It will happen for you I am sure. Take care.

Thanks, Alexis. I am disappointed to say the least. From all the things I've read and heard about the chances of our insurance plan being changed for the better, I am prepared for the worst. I have talked to the coordinator of the bariatric program and she has held out some hope that United Health Care may ok it. I'll just have to come up with the co-insurance and deductible. I will do this. It may take a while but I will. Thanks for everyone's support!
