Newbie here
Hello all, My name is Debbie, I live in Lawrenceburg In. I guess if I want this surgery I am going to have to do self-pay. My insurance company is UNC and they have an exclusion for weight loss surgery.Right now I am sending several emails to my human benefits department in order to try to get this exclusion removed. I guess I will be looking for a part time job soon so I can get the money together faster. Like they say " Good things come to those who wait". If anyone wants to chat I have yahoo messenger and my name on there is djb57_47023. Thank you all for letting me vent alittle
HI Debbie,
I'm new too (last week). You will not find a nicer or more supportive group of people than there are here.
Don't give up. Read everything you can about insurance. Where there is a will there is a way.
I only have Medicare and I'm searching/praying for additonal coverage. Medicare only covers 80%. I don't exactly have the potential 20% laying around. Maybe I'll win the lottery (when I start playing) lol.
I have found the most information from other people.
Best of Wishes on your journey.

Dee, my best friend had her surgery with only Medicare. She did not have to pay the 20 %. Our doctors accept MEDICARE ASSIGNMENT. That is what makes the difference. If they take ASSIGNMENT, it means they cannot charge you more that what medicare pays. She did have to pay her deductibles. It was 880. to the hospital and 200 something to the surgeon and they accepted payments. Ask around and find a doc that not only takes medicare, but accepts ASSIGNMENT. That's where a lot of people mess up. They ask "do you take medicare'. They need to ask, do you take medicare assignment. Good luck.
