I have a random question I guess. I'm having surgery thursday and I was wondering if you could drink alcohol after the surgery. I'm not saying right after but i mean like a couple of months out. I know that its weird, but i was just curious. Thanks

Ok From what I understand the liver really takes a beeting when we start loosing weight cause it has to dissolve all the fat that we are losing and and when You add alcohol on top of that you are asking for liver failure. or something like that. My advice wait till done losing. Or do it at Your own risk.

I was told by my surgeon not to drink alcohol for one year after surgery. However, I am 14 weeks post-op, and I have had alcohol a few times since surgery. I drink vodka and cranberry juice, but one drink lasts two hours. I have been fortunate not to become sick. The body does break down alcohol (alcohol sugars specifically) after surgery, so be careful what you drink. I would not recommend mixed drinks because the mixers are high in sugar, and it could result in dumping syndrome. Also, any carbonated drink such as beer is very hard on the stomach. You must learn you tolerance again, and only drink on special occasions. Good luck on Thursday- you are beginning a wonderful journey!!!
