I find myself eating just to be eating. Im semi retired so Im not to busy. But my concern is that after the surgery . Will I still just eat to be eating or is there a feeling of fullness that will discourage me from nibbling. Also, I just got back from 3 weeks vacation and I went swimming almost every day and didn't gain weight. It must be great exercise. While I was on vacation I called the Dr.s office and found that my insurance APPROVED my surgery. Just need the phyc. evaluation for complete approval and then they will schedule the other things I have to do . The nurse said I could be scheduled by mid August of September. (Now Im scared)Thanks to anyone *****plys . Im going to indicate urgent because thats the way I feel!!!!!!!!!!

Deb- The feeling af fullness is a big help, but you can still over eat. If you do you will feel horrible, possibly dump or throw up. When I first got out of surgery, the smell of what everyone ese was eating I craved for, but stuck to my liquids. Now, it doesn't bother me at all I don't feel like snacking, and if they are eating sweets I just don't want them, and if I do get a sweet tooth, there are so many sugar free things out today, and a little nibble is satisfying enough. It is hard enough to get all the protein and water in everyday since you get full so soon, that I don't think you will have any problem staying away from extra food snackings. Don't get me wrong you can over eat, or eat the wrong thing, but they usually have consiquences that you stay away from them. Best of luck to you, andI will keep you in my prayers.- Melissa

Thanks for replying Melissa. Where do you live and how long ago did you have surgery? I am going to have a lap bypass. I have been trying to decide which one I would have, and decided on the bypass instead of the band because of my age 56 and I don't want to go through this and then not have it work. I would like the best results. Also the bypass is suppose to effect appetite more, from what I have read.

Hey Deborah, I live in eastern KY, but had my surgery in Louisville at nortons with Dr Allen. YOu made a good choice to have bypass instead of band. I hear alot of bandsters say they wich they went with the bypass, but I hear good stuff abouit the band too. I had my surgery May 24th, and I am approaching the 50lb stretch. I will keep you in my prayers, and please let me know when your surgery is. _ Melissa

Hello Deborah. I had open rny and I hardly ever get hungry. There are sometimes I have to make myself eat because my doctor said to eat three times a day. As long as you follow your doctors orders and drink like you should (64oz or as much as you can) you won't get that feeling of hunger. At least I don't. Being scared is normal. I was terrified the week of and day of. My in laws live there in Louisville, and that is about 30 minutes away. Good luck and I hope this helps you out. Toni open rny 5\21\04

Hi ladies, You both had your surgery about the same time . Toni you had yours on my birthday. Im 56 and live in Louisville. I have always been on a diet and did alright at keeping my weight down until about 7 years ago and I started packing on about 25 or more lbs a year. I have been at my "peak" 240 and have decided Im not going anylonger. I have dieted myself to this weight. Weigh****chers , Jenny Craig , Atkins , Diet pills and I will get so discourged when I lose 1/2 lb in two weeks , I guess Im a quiter. I hope this surgery won't let me quit and I think that the fast weight loss at first will help me. Melissa 50lbs since May 24, that's great. You sound like you are following the Drs. advice. Im going to be one of those. One other thing I'v been worried about is the fact that my Dad has 5 sisters (my aunt's) and they are all in there late 80's early 90's and three of them are bigger than me and have been as long as I can remember, and they have lived to be that old, but they do have proplems getting around that the other two don't have. So Im going to take the plunge and change my way of living.

Melissa and I were across the hall from each other at the hospital. We met and have become great friends. We talk all the time. Wow, that is neat that I had it done on your birthday. Those diets you talked about barely work. My mom had done them all and lost but to regain it all back when she stopped the diets. You are not a quiter, they just don't work. There is no way ths surgery will let you quit. You can't eat much unless you want to feel terrible all night and spend quit some time in the bathroom. Thank God I have lost 51 so far and I do follow doctors orders or Melissa gets me. LOL Just joking. WE are all here to give you and each other so much support through the entire process. The support doesn't stop after you have surgery. As long as you are on this site, you will get support you need. We are just one big happy family here, out to help anyone who needs it. You will do fine. Toni
