I AM 3 WEEKS POST OP TODAY. YESTERDAY, I RETURNED TO THE DOCTOR AND GOT STAPLES REMOVED AND TUBE. I ALSO LOST 32 lbs. IN THE PAST 3 WEEKS. HOWEVER, I CANNOT REJOICE OVER THE LOSS BECAUSE I FEEL SO TERRIBLE. I AM EATING PRACTICALLY NOTHING AT ALL BECAUSE OF NAUSEA AND DRY HEAVES. I CAN HARDLY GET MY MEDICATIONS DOWN. THE ONLY THING I REALLY TOLERATE WELL IS PURE CLEAN BOTTLED WATER (Dasani or Dejublue) brand. Anything sweet like jello taste too sweet. Nothing taste right. I also am lactose intolerant now and I get diarrhea with the milk. I was always a big milk drinker and I miss it. Brushing my teeth makes me have dry heaves. I am very worried about this. Has anyone else had this and how long will it last. Dr. didn't seem too concerned, just said try to get my water in to stay out of trouble. I was supposed to start protein drink today, but from what I have heard from them they are awful too. I need help, advice, encouragement. Any good suggestions about the protein drink?

Barb, I haven't had surgery yet so I don't know what to tell you. Did your Doctor have a Nutionist to consult. Try some chicken broth and soak crackers in them . thats the way I use to eat when I was pregnant , the starch settled my stomach.Im sorry you're feeling bad, i hope you'll feel better soon.

Hey Barb, the protein drinks are awful. Before surgery I loved the low carb slim fast shakes but now, YUCK! I am drinking Hood brand yogurt smoothies. If the sweet is getting to you, then you probably wouldn't like these. I am going to try the SF Carnation Instant brand next. Friend says it tastes like milk but a little thicker. You could mix it with some milk for lactose intolerants. I used to work for a diet place that has an excellent grape flavored one but I can't get them anymore. I hate it b/c they are really good. Best of luck to you and congrats on your loss. I have only lost 40 and I am almost 4 months out!! Kathy 4/1/04 253/237/197/130 P.S. In case you are wondering why I am in the KY room, I am a KY girl who has had to move to MS for a job! Miss it there.

Hi, Barb. I am 6 weeks post-op and know what you are going through to a certain extent. I had trouble with not wanting to eat for a while, but it got better. My surgeon said the nausea could be caused by mucous buildup in the esophagus and pouch and to drink hot drinks 3 times a day. I drink decaf hot tea and the nausea is gone. As far as protein drinks, I use the drinks sold by my surgeon. They have a fruit punch and a grape drink that are really good. 15 gm. of protein. THey also have tomato soup and cream of chicken soup which are very good. I would be glad to give you their number if you would like to see if they would send you some. THe office is in Lex. Believe me, at 3 weeks out I wondered why I had done this but now at 6 weeks I feel so much better. The only problem I have is taking my medications so I cut the pill in half and put it in jello pudding (sugar free) and it goes right down. I make the pudding with the Hood low carb milk. I still can't take the big vitamins so I bought the adult chewable Centrum orange flavored. They're not bad. I hope you will begin to feel better soon. Your weight loss is amazing. I've only lost 32 lbs. in 6 weeks but I'm happy with that.
