help: I'll be having surgery on Aug 9th and have been reading messages that talk about eating protein to make your liver smaller and trying to lose weight before surgery. No one I have talked to in the doctor's office has suggested that I do either. Have I missed something??? Should I go on Atkins or South Beach for the next few weeks? Suggestions, please

Hey there. I'm not to far from you. lol To be honest, I didn't do anything and verything went fine. But if you are worried about this or really want a correct answer, ask your doctor. Hope this helps. Toni

At the seminar for my surgeon last night (went for show and tell) The Dr. and nurse said the reason to lose 10-15 lbs before surgery is to decrease the size of your liver. Since they have to lift your liver up to get to your stomach during surgery, the smaller it is, the better. It is best to have a high protein, low carb, low fat diet.
