I'm back - 10 days post op
Hey all, I finally feel up to posting again. Everything went well for me and I thank each of you for your prayers and concerns. I'm having trouble getting all the fluids I need to drink. Everything taste so sweet and that turns me off - actually nothing really seems to taste right. I also hate meal times - I wish I didn't have to eat. Is anyone else like this?
Hi Barb!
Good for you! I am pre op but hear the same concerns from other posties. Do you drink flavored waters? O****er with protein in it? I don't think the eating is nearly as important as the water. Just keep sipping. Can you get in any clear broth? Maybe someone else can be of more help.
Congratulations!

Are you on a strained/pureed diet? I know that I was for the first 4 weeks. I found that yogurt, cinnamon applesauce, and chicken broth were my best bets. I know what you mean about everything tasting too sweet...I still have that problem. Guess that's not entirely a bad thing, though!
I was supposed to get in one ounce 10 times per day for the first four weeks. Usually, I managed to get the ounce in 6 or 7 times per day...I didn't force myself to eat if I REALLY didn't want to, and I didn't interrupt rest/naps just to eat.
I am now 6 weeks post-op. I still don't ever feel hungry and I typically don't finish the 3-4 oz. meals that I prepare myself, but I do feel more positive about eating. I think it gets easier when you can go down to eating 4 or 5 times per day instead of 10. Hang in there! You'll figure out your own routine/likes/dislikes/what works for you!

Hi Barb, I tell people all the time that the first few weeks are the absolute hardest. I felt weepy and depressed on and off through that time period. I was doubting myself and my decision. You are going through a physical and emotional change in your life. Just know that it is definately all worth it AND it will get better. Be sure you are walking because I think that the exercise will help with your mental well-being. I am 7 months post op and doing GREAT! I've lost 83 pounds so far and the only regrets that I have is I didn't do this sooner. But everything is in God's timing so I know I am where I need to be at this time. I hope this helps you! Email me if you have any questions!
