New, Is anyone here a patient of Dr. Shina's?
Hey Vickie- As sweet Kim Rider has said if you are checking Drs out you might want to look into Jeff Allen also, he was terrific. I had lap rny, healed real fast and no complications. The weight loss has been great, and he will answer all of your questions. I will keep you in my prayers, keep us updated on your decision and progress.
Bless you, Melissa.
I am glad to hear you're doing great. I will check out Dr. Allen. This is such a big decision and I am open to looking into every possiblity.
Could you tell me what type of after-care program Dr. Allen has? Things like how often do you see him after surgery and are there any support groups for his patients? I can check his credentials pretty easily, but it's a little hard to find out what his care is like post-surgery.
Thanks so much for the info. I pray you have continued success!
Vickie

Hey Vickie- Dr Allen is a little different for me, since I am far away he saw me 2 1/2 weeks after surgery, and my next appt is in Sept., 3 months from my post op appt. Norton''s hospital has alot of different support groups for this surgery. Since I live far out I depend on the support of my family and friends and AMOS family. You will probably see Dr Allen more than me, living in E-town. I hear the Norton's support groups are very good. They gave me a flyer with the different dates, when I was leaving the hospital. All of Dr Allen pateints get one, and I am sure so does anyone else having this typer of surgery. Best of luck to you on your findings, and keep us updated with how you are doing.-Melissa
Hi Vickie,
I am 11 days post-op from my surgery, and my surgeon was Dr. Shina. He did a great job, but I will say, he is a man of few words. He is very straight to the point. I really liked the staff in his office, and would definitly recommend him. Any more questions, please feel free to ask me.
Micah
God bless you too, Micah.
I hope you're doing well and healing quickly. Thanks for the info about Dr. Shina. So far, all of his patients I have heard from say about the same thing. I guess a man as busy as he is can't spare much time working on his bedside manner. What really counts though is his skill as a surgeon.
Thanks again for sharing your experience with me. I'll keep you in my prayers. Speedy recovery!
Vickie

I didn't have Dr. Shina but I wanted to wish you luck!
I had the RNY with Drs. Weiss and Oldham at Georgetown and they have a PHENOMENOL aftercare program. We have weekly support meetings, monthly huge support meetings, monthly social activities, and are even going on a cruise this October! Several on the staff there had WLS themselves and that makes our aftercare so much more in depth and personal and on target.
Plus, I just adore our docs. We get hugs and kisses from them and they're as excited as we are about our successes.

I am one of Dr. Shina's patients and had my surgery in May. I loved him. Yes he's a bit arrogant, and at first a little more than blunt but I appreciated it. He's different post-op than he was in consultation, a tad more kind. My mom and grandma also thought he was great. I have absolutely no reservations recommending him to anyone. Two thumbs up from me!
