Had my psych eval on Friday- a little long
As far as I can tell, things went well and nothing unexpected occurred. I was asked several times, "why are you overweight?", "why haven't you been successful in losing weight?". Of course, the smug answer is, "I eat too much and move too little". I didn't have a huge amount of insight on that, just that most diets don't fit my personality or my lifestyle. My personal analogy about this surgery is that it's like having your own business and being given money to get it off the ground. It's a huge help but also a burden because you have the control about the way it's used and you can be smart or stupid about it. You'll make a few mistakes, which is normal, but if you do what you know is the smart thing (follow dietary guidelines, get exercise, find new ways to cope with life), WLS can be a great boost to your success.
I took the 342 question questionnaire. It wasn't bad. You just have to read the statements carefully because they're worded differently each time. It was very focused on drinking and drug tendencies, suicidal tendencies, "hearing voices" no one else hears, and hypochondria.
The psychologist, Dr. Steger, did have some good suggestions, such as start to work on the changes you will be required to make after surgery now. Also, make sure your family and/or spouse is ready for the big changes to come.
Hope this helps. Sorry for the length.
