Hello I am just starting on this journey and I have to tell you all I am a little scared about it all. I have been overweight for ten years now. I gained a lot of weight with my pregnancy's going from 110 to 240. A friend suggested that I might want to look into wls but I still have my reservation about it. I know how painful it was when I had my children through c-section and I was told that the inscission felt like that afterwards. I feel like that I have tried everything that I can to lose this weight. All of the diets out there including weigh****chers, Atkins, south beach, all fruit, low fat diets and low calorie but it seems like nothing works. I am also afraid of what my family will say if I have the surgery. My husband is very supportive and says that if this s what I want then he will be there for me all the way. I don't want to do this to just lose weight I want to do this to improve my life. Right now I get tired so easily that I can't play with my children and that in it's self hurts so much but I also have problems with my legs and my back which my doctor contributes to my weight. I guess I just wanted to ask a few questions. 1. Did any of you have family members say that you were taking the easy way out? 2. Do you know which surgery has the fastest recovery time, I ask this because I do have three kids that are very active and I'm not sure how supportive my family will be yet. 3. I have read that they do a psych. evaluation if you have a history of depression will they do the surgery? Carol

If you have the surgery laparoscopically the incisions are 100% better than a C-section. Much easier to take care of and you are more mobile right after surgey. Yes, I've heard people say that this is the easy way out, but anyone whose actually done it knows that it cannot possibly be EASY, just the opposite! You have only to read the posts and questions to see that this is a life changing miracle that has it's challenges daily. Laparoscopic Adjustible Gastric Banding would have the fastest recovery, as in most cases people are out of the hospital within 23 hours, if not earlier, and back to work in a week, or less. Lap RNY would come second. I asked my counselor to write a letter for my doctors instead of having the psych evaluation since I was already in therapy for depression. Perhaps you could do something similar? Good luck with your journey! Stephanie

Depression will not be a cause to keep you from having surgery. Probably, 98% of the people having surgery have suffered bouts of depression. Educate yourself and read all the messages you can the then decide what is best for you and don't worry about what other people may think. Good luck to you.
