Protein Drinks
The nurses and doctors from my bariatric program don't suggest to have more than 35 grams of protein at one time, since we really don't absorb more than that. In order to get that in, I use one scoop (scooper included) of Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla protein drink mixed in Lactaid brand Fat Free Milk with Soy Protein, which yields about 39 grams of protein. I usually add a teaspoon of sugar free or fat free Nestle hot chocolate mix to make it taste like chocolate milk. Of course, there is also the Carb Countdown Chocolate Fat Free you can get and use instead of Lactaid with soy protein. It has 2 grams less of protein in it, and is not lactose free, so it's really whatever you prefer. Occasionally, to change the flavor, I use the Sugar Free Davinci syrups and flavor to my taste instead of the hot chocolate mix. Drink this drink twice a day and you'll absolutely have all the protein you need.
The Isopure Vanilla is so versatile to me, I don't bother trying too many other kinds. It costs too much. Of course, as Kathrn L is always saying, the Nectar brands are to die for. I even tried the Roadside Lemonade, though I don't usually like lemonade, and it was really good.
But don't try too many things before surgery, as your taste will change and what you like now will not necessarily taste good after surgery. Go to BariatricEating.com, or Vitalady.com and you can order samples of different kinds of protein to try out, relatively cheap.
Hi Micah!
My dietician
has recommended - Unjury - to us at Lourdes in Paducah.
Go to www.unjury.com for more information.
I have heard that it has a decent taste.....I haven't tried it yet!
But at least look up the info.....prices aren't too bad
either!
Have a great day!

I tried the unjury and got sick. its nasty. I've been told that if you get the unflavored kind and mix it with crystal light its the best way to go. Or mix it with fruit juice. I still don't have a date yet but I have a friend that is an RN and she had hers a year ago and is doiwn 200lbs. She looks great. good luck and god be with you micah. keep me posted.
