Rita, I have BC/BS BlueAccess and they denied me twice. I had the doctor call, and I called my self, and they said that they not longer covered the surgery with the type of policy that I had. Please check your policy. Even though, I did not have the surgery, I did join a Gym for Women (CURVES) and went on a low carb diet and so far I have lost 12 pounds and 18 inches. So don't give up. I get on this site all the time just to get support, that is really important. If you have to call your insurace yourself.

I have Highmark BC/BS blueaccess PPO and was just approved yesterday, but I don't know the difference between the two different plans. My customer services told me that wls was one of those things that had to be pre-approved and medically neccessary. My doctors office took care of submitting all the information. It did however take a while for the insurance company to reply. I think that you should go ahead and if they deny you, fight it. My family doctor told me that the surgeons can be very pursasive. To help you get approved so go for it and good luck. Kathy

well, just got a call from the dr. office. There is a written contract exclusion that says they don't pay for any weight loss surgery. period... how discouraging......
