AMOS Family I need help! I stay hungry all the time and I have began eating like my old habits. I need help and need it fast. I went through too much pain and heartache for RNY to have this happen to me. I drink soda every now and then, do you all think this has caused me to stretch my pouch? I am scared I may have to end up doing a revision. Has anyone else ever have this happen to them?

Rosanna, I am still pre-op havn't had surgery yet. But I love cokes and wa told by my Doctor at his seminar that once I have the surgery can no longer drink them because the carbonation causes the pouch to expand and we do not want that to happen. Marsha

Ok.. before we assume the worst..when was your surgery?? How much can you eat, and what is it you are eatting?? Are you drinking with your meals, or within 3o minutes AFTER finishing eatting?? Also, Carbonation doesn't stretch your pouch. My surgeon says none for about 2 months, because it isn't a good way to get in fluids, and they are soo important always, but esp. those first few months. If you put carbonated water (soda) in a balloon..the balloon expands.. that's the argument on carbonation with WLS.. HOWEVER, if you put a hole in that balloon..guess what?? The fluid goes OUT the other side.. Just like with your pouch. fluids run RIGHT through mr. pouch.. Any residual gas is either gonna come up or go down (belch, fart.. excuse me for the kindergarden words, but it's true..lol) Either respond here or email me and I'll see if I can give you any pointers. I recently went through some feelings of failure, because of the amounts of food i was able to eat... thanks to my amos family, and my angel Jill, I feel back on track!! I'd love to help you. Don't give up or be down on yourself... We are all different, too!! April Edwards -62lbs

I am still pre-op also, but the diet information that both my dr. and nutritionist gave me said that the reason we are not supossed to drink soda is not because of the carbonation, but because caffine is an appetite stimulator. Maybe trying drinking caffine free sodas, if your not already and see if that helps.

I am so glad you posted this because I am the same way. I had my surgery on April 1 and I stay hungry. I am able to eat with my food and dr. said that was fine. I am amazed by the quantity of food I can eat. I went to Outback and ate half of the dinner size portion of fish. I am losing but I find this to be odd when I have a friend who can eat about half of an enchilada.

I am scared of a revision too. I feel like I need to eat all of the time even though I am not hungry. And recently about a month maybe longer I've been drinking soda. I've read the post of others and I Know I've been wrong and today is my first day soda free. I sure hope I didn't strech my pouch! I had my surgery in Nov 2003 and I've lost 73lbs. I am emotional eater. Sandra
