Sherry, Dr. Shina is my surgeon. I am scheduled for the 25th of this month. Excited but getting nervous the closer it gets. Dr. Shina is a very straight forward Dr. His concern is that you LISTEN to him because is benefits you. Sometimes you may take him to be harsh but it's for your health. I fully trust Dr. Shina and his decisons. I will keep you updated after my surgery. If you have any specific questions please post them.

Sherry, I didn't have Dr. Shina as my surgeon but I did have Dr. Geller. He is in with Dr. Shina. Both are excellent surgeon's in my book. I did notice you are close to my neck of the woods so if you want to talk to me or get together with any questions you may have feel free to email me at [email protected]. I am out about 8 months and have lost 106lbs. I feel wonderful. Later................

I have to go away from the grain here on Shina. I called his office and could not get my questions answered. I could not even talk to him until after I was approved. This did not sit well with me. I researched much and wanted to know things like his mortality rate, what the worst (non-fatal) complication he had encountered was, etc. Becuase I could not get these questions answered and was told he may or may not be at the initial mass meeting I did not even consider him. Istead I went with Dr. Nighbert in Lexington. I drive 2 hours instead of 45 min and feel much safer as a result.

Jennifer, Did you ever attend one of his seminars? He answered every one of your questions to the group the day of our seminar. Let me know if Dr. Nighbert in Lexington puts you through all the test Ive been through the last 2 weeks. Dr. Shina is very safe and dedicated to the well being of his patients. Dr. Shina will not put your health or life at risk. My surgery with him is scheduled for June 25th. I hope I can replay later with great result. I wish you the best in your quest.

Randal..as I said in my origional post I did NOT go to his seminar because the nurse/receptionist said he may or may not attend. I was tiold he doesn't always attend. I have a good feeling I went through as many tests as you, possibly more. If you want to complare...go ahead and e-mail me and I will e-main you the tests I had. Also, I said I could not get the person who answered the phone to give me any answers. Our receptionist (on of Nighbert's patients) can answer any question that does not require consultation. If you have one of those she will get back with you. I did not feel safe enought to even go to Shina's seminar. You did and have surg just a few days after me (I'm the 21st). I hope you success. I am glad he was for you...he just wasn't for me and I feel good about my choice. Just curious, when did you first attend a seminar? Just wondering how fast you got through evrything. I started in Sept for the seminar. Our dietician knew my insurance would reject any claim without a 6 month "diet" program. She found out when I lost 25 in 26 weeks that they changed their policy that month and I had lost too much. I hade to regain weight to get approved. Our exercise physiologist is awesome, and so are the nurses. It is a very comprehensive plan..all the way through the surg and post op. There are only 4 anistesiologists they work with and a special area for bariatric patients so the Dr's know the nurses are preperly educated on their care.
