I am trying to find support group meetings in the south central KY area and I have Empire BCBS insurance in which to get approval through. My BMI is 60 but I don't have High BP or other comorbities, will I still get approved?

Jennifer, It all depends on your insurance policy. My insurance is BCBS of TN PPO and I was wondering the same thing. Will the insurance cover the cost of surgery? It all depends on your policy. You can go to your insurance providers website and do a search by 'bariatric surgery.' That's what I did. It actually helped. BCBS of TN gives a guideline of what they need in order for them to approve you. Things like showing a history of morbid obesity for more than 5 years, proof that you have tried other weight loss methods, record that you've been under a physicians supervision for a six month period in the past two years, etc. are some things needed. But the thing is, the policy you have may have exclusions which may altogether say no no to surgery. I hope that's been some help. andrea
