i know it sounds stupid to say i really wanna kill myself now. but i do. i went to my first consultation with the nurse and pshyciatric doctor . then with the insurance coordinator to have her sit there and tell me that i more than likely wont be able to have the surgery with the insurance i have whichi is CHA. i feel so let down. i have health problems but not diabetes (yet) but i see it coming soon. everyone says dont give up but its sooooo hard. i dont want to loose weight to look good but i am becoming really really unhealthy and it scares me. i can put pressure on my legs and it will leave a dent for 20 mins and i know thats not good. i have pcod which the doctors say is the reason i have gained so much weight. does anyone have any advice on what to do?

Do you have pcod (type error??) or pecos? If pecos, look in the library for other info on this subject. Can you switch jobs, or get a different type insurance? Don't ever give up whatever you do. My family talked me out of having this surgery in my 30's, and I just had open RNY finally on 1/30/04. It took me about 3 yrs to get approved, (with chging insurances and all - 1st company had iron clad exclusion). If you are depressed, get on something, and then cont with your quest for WLS. You are worth waaaaayyyy too much to do something STUPID like that!!! Good Luck in getting approved. Becky 352/284/150

I think PCOD is polycystic ovary disease or PCOS Polycystic ovary syndrome.

Don't give up! You have to fight and you're way too young to not give it some time. There are many of us who have had to change insurances, and/or wait many months or years before we got approved. It is very hard to wait. Looking at the pictures in the before and after page can tend to make you want this so much that bad news can really seem like the end of hope. IT'S NOT! It will take time and patience (which no one has much of), but as long as you keep plugging along at it you can get it done. Call a counselor NOW about your despair. Don't let it tear you up and ruin your life even more. If you are not on anti-depressants, look into getting some. They can literally save your life. When I started taking them almost two years ago, I thought there was no hope and no reason for me even being here. Though I didn't have a "plan" as everyone asked when I first mentioned being depressed, I had been looking for one. Medication and counseling helped me pull myself out of a horrible hole I'd been in forever. There IS hope. Please talk to someone NOW. Then work toward getting an insurance company that WILL help you.

Hi Ashley: Don't give up. Suicide is never the answer. I'm glad you're feeling better today. There are also medical financing companies who will help you finance the cost of surgery. Perhaps get your parents to help you cosign a loan. A friend of mine paid for her surgery because of her insurance. Talk to the insurance coordinator or email her about how to possibly switch insurances. Are you on insurance where you work or thru your parents? Sometimes insurances have OPEN ENROLLMENT when you can switch. You could consider finding a job that has one of the better insurances too...I don't know your situation but I'm just throwing out options.... Just email me anytime....Never Give up, never Surrender! Also, there's a lawyer named Walter Lindstrom who specializes in getting approvals...I think the website is www.wlslaw.com but I'm not positive. It's probably listed somewhere on this site. Kat

First let me say may God bless you and keep you while you are on this journey to a healthier you. Honey, suicide not only ruin your chance for your wonderful life to come, but also your family. They need you even if it seems they don't. We are all here to talk to you and support you. First off if suicide is on your mind then you need to let your DR know so you can get some help. This journey to and through WLS can be very disapointing and hard. Some get through with a breeze and some won't. The big thing is don't give up. You keep on your Drs and you talk with your insurance company to see if they cover it and if they do what brackets you need to fall into.I am not saying this is going to be an easy fight, but a fight it must be. I will keep you in my prayers for a successful journey, and hope to see you on the losing side! If you need to talk please feel free to email me. God bless you sweetie!-Melissa

Ashley, You will most likely have trouble finding any insurance company to allow you to have this kind of surgery. The problems you have now could even get WORST . your body will go through a lot of changes after this surgery, and some people have problems with depression, and if you are having this kind of problems now there is not many Dr.s or insurance company that would touch you. BE STRONG AND HANG IN THERE, the road is tough I know I am fighting the insurance company now, and it is a real pain in the bass.
