Attending Support Groups!

Hello I'm still pre-op becauses of insurance matters. I'd like to know when to start attending the support meetings. Does every one wait until they are post-op? I don't hear from the weight loss center ato St. Joe East or from the insurance. I met alot of nice people while attending the semanar and taking the tests, but never did get any ones name. So I can't even check on them as to whether they've have surgery or not.I feel loss!! I thought maybe some of us would have our surgery around the same time, and be in some of the meetings together, but now I have to wait, for how long, I don't know. Linda

Linda, Let me know what you find out...I see Dr. Bolar, but would really like to go to a support group meeting before my surgery too! My insurance has just approved me and I'm waiting as we speak to schedule my date...I'm thinking June 9, but would like to try and attend some meetings first just to get the hang of it... Hi Michelle , I got another responce from a Stephanie Bishhop . She's either seeing Dr Bolar now, or he's already did her surgery and she said at the Georgetown hospital pr-op and post-op both attended the meetings! Of course Dr. Bolar is in Lexington. so you might want to call his office and ask if they do that in Lexington. I'm going to St. joe East,that is when I finally get to have the surgery!! I think I'll call too. and check on the meetings I'd think I would feel more involve if i could go to support groups even tho I'm just pre-op. Congradulation on your insurance appoval! Actually, Drs. Weiss and Oldham did my surgery in Georgetown, but we do have some patients of Dr. Bolar in the group. Stephanie

At Scott Co. Library once a month the Georgetown Bariatric Center hosts meetings, and anyone pre-or post op is invited to join. The next one is Tuesday May 3 at 6pm. There will be some people from www.BariatricAdvantage.com there to discuss their vitamins and other supplements that are formulated for bariatric patients. Stephanie

Thanks Stephanie, I'm going to St. Joe East,when ever I get to finally have my surgery. Ithink I will call them and see what they say. I think i would feel more involve if I could go to some meetings now. Linda

Linda, I'm not sure you can go to our meetings as a pre-op but call the office and ask. My best friend had surgery when they were first starting and I wanted to attend with her one night when I was pre-op because I was so excited and ready to roll. Donna said I couldn't but I have been there and heard a few people say they were pre-op. I don't know if they have changed it or those people just didn't know and came with someone else. We are having a meeting this week. The speaker will talk about Plateaus. I got an email from them today but do not plan to go. They have started a new one for those of us that are over a year post op. Just not much for us in the other meetings. I lost interest.
