linda, I had medicare as my secondary but my best friend had only medicare. Dr. Steiner at St. Joe East did her surgery. he accepts medicare assignment which means they can't charge you anymore than medicare pays. A lot will tell you they take medicare but it has to be medicare ASSIGNMENT or you will end up with a bill. She had to pay the hospital a little over 800. That is the co-pay. They also let her make payments. Dr. Steiner's fee (at that time) was 6,000 and she only had to pay 400. She also made payments to his office. That is all the out of pocket she had. But if they don't take assignment you have to pay 20% of the bill which could end up being a lot. We had our surgeries over a year ago so things might have changed at St. Joe East but the medicare part hasn't changed. I still owed 3,000 on my surgeon bill even with UHC and medicare. They wrote it off as medicare assignment.

Thanks Delores, I'm going to St. Joe East too. Idon't know which Dr. will do my surgery, but I'm real please with them all! They still do take assignments! Right now I have Humana and they have an exclusion in their policy so they denied it. I have medicare as my seconery. My husband is retireing the first of year so we'll lose humana anyways, so I'm thinking about taking my self off his policy now and than I'll just have medicare. I see on the insurers web site that alot of people have just Medicare but i was wondering how much they paid. Thanks again, Linda
