OT- Any horse owners on the boards?

Hey all... Getting ready to purchase a horse and I haven't owned a horse in 15 years. I am MO and would like to know what is too big to ride. The horse is a 10 yr old mare about 16 hands...Please if you have any advise.... Sher

The KY Horse Park has a limit of 245 lbs for those who ride their horses. I don't own any horses so I don't know if this is conservative or not.
