I am 18 months post-op and totally regret my surgery (RNY). I lost 98lbs but now can eat even more than pre-surgery. I can eat a whole large pizza, no problem. Of course I don't eat whole pizzas all the time but I have eaten one. I stopped losing weight by 8 months post-op, even though I was eating small portions and walking 2 miles every other day. After 6 months of working out, eating small portions but being hungry, and not losing I just kind of gave up. All my frineds/ coworkers that had the surgery around the same time have gained most if not all their weight back . For numerous reasons I regret the surgery, so I was wondering is there any other post-ops that regret their surgery? I figure probably not, that the ones that regret their surgery probably don't visit this website anymore. I know I haven't visited until recently. It used to be an everyday thing but I have stayed away because I have the urge to email all the people waiting to have surgery and try to talk them out of going through with it.

Shannon, I am so sorry you are going thru this. I have heard this a lot recently Do you know if you were transected? Seems like i remember from Dr. Bolar's seminar that he does transect people. Have you had your mechanics checked? I am totally happy at 14 months out. I do sometimes, well a lot of times, miss being able to eat as much as I used to. I would love to eat a whole sandwich of any kind or a big mac and order of fries. So that is one thing that does bother me. I am just resigned that I will never be able to enjoy those things again. I miss going to chinese buffet and eating. I still eat chinese but it is such a small amount, I feel like its nothing. So, I can say, that right now i don't regret it. Six months from now, who knows?

Hello Shannon, I know this is very difficult for you. I had my surgery at the Georgetown Hospital, but with the new surgeons. I have been very happy with my progress. I know alot of Dr. Bolars patients that are still involved with the support group have the same complaints as you. I know when Dr. Bolar left Georgetown his former patients felt left out. But you need to get back to the support groups. Everybody has wonderful ideas and we are planning wonderful and exiting things to do together. I'm currently looking forward to a cruise in the fall with my support group. If it was me, I would be bouncing right up to Dr. Bolar's office and let him explain why you are able to eat this amount of food. Drinking cokes and drinking from straws will stretch out your pouch. Hopefully you can turn this around and become a mentor to others who have not done what they had hoped. Don't give up......get mad and make it work, you and only you can make it work......
