Has anyone experience RNY surgery with Dr. Jefferey Allen?

Please let me know of your results after surgery with Dr. Allen or any family or friends. I am ready to hear the negative as well as the positive. Also let me know how you are doing and your weight loss experience. Sincerely, Sojurner

My surgery was March 1 2004. Dr. Allen did a wonderful job with me. I had the Lap.RNY. I was in the hospital 4 days. I drove myself home! I have had little or no pain. I was expecting things to be really different. (harder) I am walking again! I am able to stand at my sink and wash dishes without having to rest before I get finished! I have a new life today. Today by my scales I weigh 250, the day of my surgery I weighed 292. 2 weeks and 2 days...I can't even think what 2 months from now will be like. Dr. Allen will answer any questions that you have. Honestly I learned a lot from this web site so I did not have that many questions. My surgery was at Nortons Downtown Louisville. I had a positive experience there as well. The staff will admit they know very little about by-pass. Be informed for yourself. Dr. Allen will see you everyday that you are there. (as well as other of his staff.) Good Luck to you! Karen

I am excite sometimes, then other times I think will die. Is that normal? your e-mail made me feel so much better. But I do not know what type of food I am suppose to eat after surgery or what type of exercise? when did you find out? My sugery date is next month. Also what type of RNY surgery did you have---distal or proximal? Thanks

My mother had RNY with Dr. Allen 2 years ago. She has had numerous complications and has actually been in Norton Downtown for the last 3 weeks. He says that he may have to reverse her bypass. I don't believe her problems were caused by Dr. Allen however. He has been very attentive to her and seems to have a wonderful bedside manner. The only problem I see is the aftercare is terrible. Learn everything you can from this site before going there. She was given little to no instruction on diet and exercise. Research research research!!!

I have not receive any info on diet or exercise. Do you know whether they will tell you in the hospital? Thank you.

Dr. Allen has a Bariatrics Program Coordinator. Her name is Laura Baldwin,RN You can e-mail Laura at [email protected] You can call her at 502-629-3396. She can answer most any questions you might have. Laura gave me a schedule for support group meetings: April 13th May 11th June 8th July 13th Aug 10th Starting time is 6:00 P.M. Location is at the Norton Health Care Pavilion (old Methodist Hospital) 4th Floor Interactive Conference Room I have not been to any of the support group meetings as of yet. I was introduced to Laura in the hospital by Dr. Allen. I got the impression that she was new to the staff. Maybe I will meet you at one of the meetings sometime. Hope this information is helpful. Hope all went well! Hope to meet you on April the 13th at the support group meeting. I am doing well. I was able to take my first BATH TUB SOAK this week.(for 2 years I only took showers, My health made a tub soak very hard.) boy do I feel like I am struttin' in high cotton! Karen

I coordinate a support group in Radcliff (about 45 min from Louisville) and I have a few Dr. Allen's Patients. They seem to love him. I have heard no bad things about him. His team has a supoport group that meets at Nortons just ask.
