Dr Larson Patients, I have a 03/18/04 surgery date
Hi,
I am a patient of Dr Larson, and I went in to have the VBG surgery, but Dr Larson and my Insurance company recommends by gastric bypass surgery, I am really nervous because it seems so drastic compared to VBG, please help! Will I ever be able to eat a small slice of pizza or enjoy a candy bar again? I am committed to having surgery and to follow up, but also I want to know that in the next few years I can enjoy pizza and choclate, thanks for any input and what do you think of Dr Larson?
I am not dr. Larson's patient but I can tell you that yes, you can eat a small slice of pizza again in a few months. I have it about once a week. crust and all. Just a very small peice. As far as chocolate candy, why would you even want to? I know, I know. No one in the world loves chocolate better than I . You can have one of the sugar free chocolates after surgery. you might dump on the sugar alcohols that is in it. someone posted today that statisically, rny has a much better success rate that the vbg. I have noticed that most of the people getting revisions now are from vbg to rny. i don't know if it is tru or not but I have heard that some ins. has stopped paying for the vbg because of this. Don't start worrying about the candy bars and etc or you will surely set yourself up for failure.
Thank you for your input, I am not a big choclate eater, I proably have choclate about once a week, but I am a big pizza eater, I was more concern about the pizza, someone mention in the post here that they can no longer have choclate, and I would at least to have it every once in a while over the coming years. I would feel more comfortable if I was having a VBG, because I am concern about the RNY complications such as not getting enough nutrients. I am more concern about the initial surgery and aftermath in the hosptial, can you tell me more about that?
Thanks
Tori
