I need help, just 6 days post op
I know i studied and read , and thought i had all the information i needed, but now im home, and I DONT KNOW WHAT TO EAT. its like i am brain dead or something. and all day yesterday i kept seeing all the V day commercerials on tv and i thought man i have to give up chocolate forever and then came all the other stuff. i knew these feeling would hit, just not this soon. If you anyone has any commments, suggestions , please let me know.
I feel your pain. I am 8 weeks post op and I had surgery 2 weeks before Christmas. Talk about regret..... However, things do get better and you can try more and more things, just don't ru**** Stay with your soups and liquids and advance slowly. If not your tummy will not be happy. Believe me I know.............. Don't feel as if you are missing things like chocolate, try to think of all the new things you are getting, like smaller clothes....Believe me your taste will change, the biggest thing I missed was pop. Well I tried it just a few days ago, it was gross.....It was too sweet and the carbonation was horrible on my pouch. Good Luck, and let me tell you that it has just been in the last week or two that I was glad that I made this decision. The first couple of weeks was a nightmare, but it gets better and you will feel a whole lot better. BTW I am almost 40 lbs smaller............
Laura, (I'm a Laura too!), anyway. I was the same way, in a way. At first nothing appealed to me. Then the commercials that got me were the Pizza Hut's with all the cheese stretching and stuff. It almost made me mad. I'm almost 9 weeks out and it does get so much better. I've already passed my "window of misery" and now can eat solids, fruits and vegetables and I've lost 54 pounds! So just hang in there it gets lots better. Also pretty soon, you can start looking at the Atkins or Russell Stovers sugar free candy. They are sooo good and the net carbs aren't bad. Just subtract any fiber or alcohol carbs. Just hang in there. It goes by fast. I ate a lot of scrambled eggs, shrimp, turkey ham, cottage cheese and stuff like that. Good luck! Laura Johns
Laura,
My doctors have a very specific eating plan post op. If yours did not have one for you , do they have a nutritionist as a part of their staff? All doctors are different as to what they think you should be eating and for what amount of time. Call and ask someone in his office, I am sure they can give you some type of guidelines. As to the temptations, try to remove yourself from the vicinity and focus on something else. Just remember: nothing tastes as good as being thin is going to feel!!
Best of luck-

Laura:
Does your program not teach you how to eat, what to eat after surgery?
*shaking head*
Okay, you need to be on liquids right now....broths, thin thin watered down cream of tomato soup perhaps....and lots of fluids and protein shakes. Sugar Free Jello. Sugar Free Popsicles. Those are things you can have right now.
In another couple of weeks, you can add things like mashed potatoes or yogurt or cottage cheese. But always drink those protein shakes. 80 grams or more a day is best. And at least 64 ounces of water.
Keep your carbs under 20 a day, your fat grams under 15 a day and you will be fine.
I would call your program and ask for some guidance too. It really steams me that there are posties out there having this surgery without any info.
You need to really focus. You've had major surgery. I didn't even THINK about food for weeks...I was too busy trying to get in all my requirements.
You haven't given up chocolate forever. Just for a few months. Walmart has some great Carb Watchers bars that are yummy.
You just have to really realize this is IT. You are committed and you need to take charge of your health right now, okay?

I was eating soft foods for about a week and then I just started eating reg. food with protien as my staple....chew, chew, chew....My doctor told me to eat what I wanted with these limitations....no sugar, no pasta, no rice, no soda, no caffiene. I think I got in all the no's...Your goal is to loose the weight and eat normal too. OH YES>>>>TO KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF!!!
