Hi. I'm relatively new at this. I have not been a member for long but have been reading information on the RNY voraciously. I have not had a consultation yet with a surgeon but have contacted the office. They placed my name on a waiting list for Dr. Jeffrey Allen in Louisville where I live. I have a 3 yo son and a fiance that i've lived with for almost four years. I'm nervous, excited and anxious all at once. I realize that if I don't have this surgery, I might not live to see my son grow up. I have had diabetes for almost 17 years and it is getting bad. I cannot get the sugars in tight control and am afraid I will have to restart using insulin shots. I am hoping this surgery will improve or completely reverse my diabetes dramatically. Any one have any tips for me? Thanks.

i think you are making a wise choice to pursue surgery. It has saved my life. I will be one year out in Feb and have lost 100 lbs. my whole life has changed. Not only do I look better but my health is great. Oh, I still have to take blood pressure meds and was so hoping I wouldn't but my pcp has told me I will always have it no matter what size i am. I hope you don't get too impatient. I have heard others on here say the waiting list for Dr. Allen can be up to two years. Hoepfully it won't be for you. Good luck in your endeavors.
