upper scope tomorrow

Hi, I have my upper scope scheduled for tomorrow. What should I expect and how will I feel afterward? I was told to have someone come with me because I would not be able to drive home due to the anesthesia. I have to go 75 miles away for this test and I will either have my husband take off work or see if my son can miss some school and drive me home. Thanks

Hi Donna, I've had this done twice. Its not bad at all, since you're asleep. You may have a little sore throat afterward for a day or so and they will probably tell you to stay on a liquid diet for a day. You'll feel much better afterwards. Joyce

the worst part is the stuff they spray in the back of your mouth taste bad. i tried to email you back but it said your email address was wrong i dont if you got it or not. john sibole

Donna, the upper scope is NOTHING! They'll put this plastic piece in your mouth to put the tube in, tell you to roll over on your side and start your IV, then you'll wake up DONE!! When I woke up my husband was asking me if I wanted MORE Diet Coke (I didn't even remember drinking the first). Yes you definitely have to have someone drive you. I don't even remember leaving the hospital although my husband said I was talking and seemed alert (pretty scary hunh?) Then I slept for quite a while so since you have so long to drive, maybe take a favorite pillow and sleep in the car on the way home. I had a little tiny sore throat right afterward that made me cough a little but it was gone the next day and I don't remember the stuff sprayed on your throat tasting bad so I guess it wasn't that bad or I would've remembered maybe. I had the upper scope today and i don't remember even seeing the doctor before the test, i do remember the plastic thing i had between my teeth and I THINK i remember the begining of the test. The only part i did not like was that I have been sleepy all day but that is really nothing to complain about. I still have my psych evaluation and the lower scope, then the doctor will send the papers to my insurance, Things have gone incredible fast for me, i went to the first seminar on December 16th! I missed the first support group meeting because they listed the wrong place but i plan on attending the next one soon. Donna
